i've just installed a pro start remote starter in my '93 buick regal. i went simple-no extras, just start the car under default settings.
it works well, BUT.. when the unit is turned on(with the valet switch) it will kill my battery overnight. turn the switch off to disable the system, and the car works as well as ever.
any ideas?

On some of the old Pro Start remote starters the default programming for the ground out when running/negative out when running wire was "Constant". If you used this wire to trigger either a relay or module such as for a VATS interface this may be your problem. It may be keeping the relay or module powered up all the time, which would be enough to kill the battery. You must program ALL options in each mode to prevent this. I believe the culprit may be in Mode 1, Function 2. The selection you want is the one labeled constant out with disarm pulse (3rd of three options). Recheck your wiring for any mistakes. The only wires which should have battery power on them are the two main power wires and in some Pro Start models the valet switch needs battery power on one side of it to feed the starter with power to turn it on. Make sure if this is the same as your model, that you put in a small (five) amp fuse inline in the power feed wire to the valet switch for safety. The manual doesn't mention this, but it could be a real danger if it's not done. If you are using any relays in your install, make sure they aren't hooked to battery power. They should be activated by the ignition and the negative out when running wire. If any relays are powered all the time, they will be warm to the touch. Also don't forget to program the vehicle's tach signa; into the remote starter. It might start fine now, but wait for a cold day and it won't.

well as soon as my wife comes back with the car, i'll reprogram it for option 3--option 1 is the default setting which i hadn't changed, everything else is fine, so i'll try it overnight after reprogramming, ttyl and thanks for that little bit of knowledge.
