pro start, is it junk or am i dumb?

finally reprogrammed my prostart so it won't kill my battery, but now it almost always DOESN'T start the car, it just gives a quick "cough" and resets itself, everything seems to check out fine, i manually programmed it's tach signal too, i just don't get it. are these known to be schizoid or something? its a ct-3100(basic model)
after the "cough" it will blink twice, slowly; telling me it didn't receive a tach. signal over 2 seconds into the crank time, but here's the thing-it never gets anywhere near 2 seconds of crank time anyway. well anyway its driving me nuts.
help in any way would be greatly appreciated.

i had my fair share of that product,i have installed hundreds of remote starts and the one time i install a product that is off the shelf of a "box" store i had nothing but problems. to be honest i don't know what the problem was. i followed all the steps and did the research on it. i finally got fed-up reoved it and installed a good product......a compustar.

yes, i agree, i just did a little"test" this evening, it seems the only time this remote starter will work properly is when the battery is at or very near full charge, anything less and it cancels its crank time, so now i have to keep my onboard automatic charger always plugged in or have no remote start, i may keep it in anyway, since the two sort of go together during the cold winter anyway, i'll only use the command start when the car is plugged in.
future vehicles will of course get reliable units.

That model is very reliable. After the earlier problems we solved, your battery may need to be replaced. ALL remote starters have a low voltage protection circuit in them to some degree. Make sure that both the positive and negative battery terminals are clean and tight. Remove them to inspect the backside that contacts the battery. Remove the bolt/stud and check for corrosion between it and the cable end. Also trace the ground cable from the battery to the body. Every one of these vehicles I have seen has a very poor ground connection to the body. Disconnect it, clean the cable and bolt end with sand paper and sand the body paint and rust where it is screwed to. Protect the cleaned area with some kind of rust preventative afterwards. Also insure that your ground for the remote starter is only going into the car chassis. Too many people use a piece of metal in the dash for ground and it isn't a good one. If you move the ground, reprogram the tach setting.
