Hi

I have an '03 Chevy Impala coming in tomorrow. The customer wants me to put in a remote starter that has progressive unlocking. However in reading up on the tech sheet it states that it is not recommended to do since the doorlocks in this car rest at 7v. I'm not too sure what that means if they operate at 7v or if I put 12v to the motor it will fry the motor due to the lack of a real ground. Usually the locks rest at ground and using a relay opens up one wire to put 12v down and make the motor unlock the door. Has anybody else had this instance? When the car shows up I'll have to check the motor for 12v operation and may have to completely isolate it with two relays. Or in a second thought put in an actuator to do the driver door first that way I'm not messing with the GM system at all.

If it has Factory Keyles or is LS try DATABuss Interface. I think there R a couple that has Driver Priority (programmable)

i usually just tap the relays in driver fuse box it has seperate relay for driver unlock only and one for other door unlock and one for lock. just solder onto the pin 85 of the relays and it will lock and unlock no problem with no extra relays or data modules.

Well the install has come and gone. Had a couple of interesting things happen. First, Omega's DB-GLM-3 which is supposed to work on these '03's did not. (The DB-GLM-3 is an alarm/doorlock module). The tech guy and I figured that the car was a real early '03 like built in August '02. The second thing was that the door locks rest at nothing. No ground. They are still 12V though so it was simple enough. The pulse was so short from the BCM during operation my meter just didn't have time to read it. I almost used my scope on it. Anyway two relays on the driver door wires, which were right in the fuse panel on the side of the driver dash Tan/Grey if anybody cares. Other than that issue Audiovox's APS-686 went in smoothly. Although there are just way too many wires for such an install. Ultra Start's 1250tl go in so much easier!
