I am in the mood to add an extra level of security to my car, the kind that Onstar provides for example. I want to be able to check the location of my vehicle at anytime from anywhere if I suspect my car is stolen. What I need is a way to make a module from my car send a signal about its GPS coordinates. I don't know yet how I should receive the signal, perhaps a cellphone that dials out?

Also a main point is the module must keep checking for its GPS location every 5 minutes and if there is a difference of more than 5 meters (for maximum gps error tolerance) while armed, the car should send a signal continuously and/or dial my cellphone. Any ideas on where I can start? Thanks.
Mark

There is something out there that does that somewhat. For the part for you to check were your car is. Saw it on the news about 2 mounths ago. His car got5 stolen and was on the phone with police depart directing them to were he car at. he was doing this form his computer. Not sure who made that though.

Omega makes a unit called the GPS2000. You can track the vehicle from the internet. It is a really nice unit. You can have it contact you when the vehicle goes over a predetermined speed and also have the police track the car while you track it also.
check it out @ GPS2000.com
