I'm looking for a place that i can find out more specific info on the compustar alarms, install instructions, actual feature guides, the website is not all that great. I would like some info on other modules, such as the channel expander that i have heard about. Also a sumwhat reputable dealer in the norcal area that i could purchase one from without having them install it (I can do the install).

Thanks

Everything you are asking about is on their site. If you DL one of their installation manuals it will discribe alot of the information you are asking about.

You could get more value and security with another brand of alarm, instead of that little toy you are interested in.

It ends up being personal preference and what your use to installing. User options, warranty, range, ease of installation, and reliability top my list of things to look for in a system. I like Compustar because these are the things that it has given me and my customer's. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing any other brand out on the market, but this is the one brand that I have had the best experience with and I have dealt with alot of systems in the past from customer's bringing me in what they have to me selling and installing the systems.

** For any DEI installer, the only reason why I don't like them as much is because the warranty doesn't extend to installation shops that don't sell their products from DEI themselves. A distributor isn't good enough, so that's my main beef with them. No warranty, means no sales from me.**

DEI, only warranties the CPU, and a few other devices. The remainder is not covered under their lifetime warranty.

Common things which people would expect to be covered such as a remote control, is not covered.

Hood pins, sirens, etc. There some dealers who will give you a break, but many follow the party line, and do not warranty these items which many other companies have, and still do today.

The choice is really up to you. I can only offer you my personal, and technical experience(s) with this brand, and its maker.

I would like to stress to you, the key word I am using, which is security, not alarm system.

The above unit does not fall into that catagory. Older Clifford G5, Hi-Pro, VSE, all were security systems.

Which employed cutting edge technology, which simply did not rely solely on a siren making noise to protect your vehicle.

Regardless of that fact, I would stress to you that no matter what you decide to install, take a layering approach, and have redundent systems in place.

90% of security is a life style choice:

PARK SMART - BE AWARE - DONT ADVERTISE - RUN STEALTH

I am sure there were many people who elected to give you their IMO on selecting the formentioned device. I can assure you that 99% of those people have absolutely no concept as to what real security is.

How do I know this??? Because I have been stealing cars for over 20 years. This isnt to say that someone who has a DEI, or other unit has any more concept of security, that statement would simply be false.

But those who have gone out of their way to have a Clifford, HI Pro installed from a authorised dealer have done their home work as to what security is, and what it can and cannot do.

The others are simply on the band wagon as to what product is moving, and what is making them the most on profit margin.

If you simply go on-line and see any E-bay listing every cheap aszz unit ever created is on line and is being sold by big, and small shops.

Not because it is truly a security system, but because it is low costs, and high profit margins, compared to any of the other major players.

Now we can go on and on about cheap export and swet shops, but the bottom line is this.

Security is a lifestyle first and formost, which will cover 90% of what you will encounter.

The vehicle did not decide to park in a back ally, nor did it decide to park 999999 miles from any traffic, or proper lighting did it??

Nor, did the vehicle decide not to have a hood lock installed to protect the primary battery, did it?

The list goes on and on, yes you can install every sensor, back up device you desire.

Then . . . Have you really just bought a security system from the start???

No, you got educated, and learned what pro thieves do to counter act common faults.

Your next move is to do more layering with active inhibitors, such as remote kill switchs, relays, etc.

Now is that the alarm system??? Or your brain working to cover all the bases???

Out of the box, the three alarms systems when properly configured, and installed will give you a better fighting chance then the above mentionded device.

End of story . . .

PARK SMART - BE AWARE - DONT ADVERTISE - RUN STEALTH

Even if you do these above mentioned items, doesn't make you any less of a target.( Not trying to start an arguement here )  Statistically speaking where you are located will also be a major factor in what system you should be looking for ( New York City or Alaska ) . Take for example, where I am located, the need for security is low and the need for remote starter's with long range is high. Not to say having a security system is not warranted as there is still auto thefts in our area, just not as many as in some populated areas of the world. If you reside in an area where auto thefts are high, concentrate your efforts in making the vehicle harder to steal with proper installation techniques and also back up systems for your primary security system.

Taking the above mentioned steps will reduce the possibilities of the car getting stolen or broken into, but doesn't take it out of the equation completely. The only sure fire way that a vehicle is never broken into or stolen is to have it sitting in a safe place where no one can access or see the vehicle.

I am interested in securing my car. I want to do all i can short of GPS tracking. I would like to install it myself if at all possible, and aside from that I don't see money as a object in buying all sensors (prox, shock, tilt, etc). Is the Avantgaurd 5, as the top G5 the way to go? I would like a 2 way with RS, and extra channels would be helpfull as well. I have seen some that (specifically state) say you can unprogram the remotes from the brain in case they are lost (I have never lost mine) but it sounds like a good feature (do they all do it?).

Thanks for the advice
