i ran across a previous post that the steering column on the audi is a bitch to get apart in order to place a antenna ring around the key cylinder for a keybox. can you interface a DEI 555B into the factory transponder wires and avoid taking apart the steering column?

You have to take the column apart regardless... terribly sorry. Use a 555B, or a 556U... hardwire into the twisted black and green on the key side of the column. You cut the green, follow the instructions for european vehicles in the booklet for the 556U. Usual VW/Audi practises of taking apart half the car also apply.... have to do doorlocks (disarm), might as well do trunk while you're in the door getting doorlocks.
To get the column apart, head down to the Home Depot or whatever place sells screwdrivers, get a T8 with an 8" shank on it, then make the shank smaller on the bench grinder so that it will fit into the recessed screw hole (shooting for a 3/16" or so shank diameter) It comes apart easier than some of the Dodge colums as far as snapping and breaking noises as it's all screwed together.

does trilogix, or omega make a interface module for this car that doesnt require a key?

Nope, and I don't think it'll happen anytime soon. The folks at VW make it impossible to code extra keys without a lot of work. You need a VAG-1551 scan tool (or the PC based Vag-Com)for starters, and the 14 digit immobilizer code from the cluster, the VIN, Build date, and then you can give that info to the dealer so that they may give you, in return, a 7 digit SKC that is valid for 24hrs. Then you can code a key. Ugh.....
Sooo.... the likelyhood that anyone is going to come up with any form of keyless bypass for any VAG product (VW, Audi, Porsche, Bentley, Lambo, Skoda) is going to be slim. The actual key is cheap, the programming procedure is a bitch. (Had to code an extra key for my car once... I did not enjoy it at all, and I own a VagCom. Just waaay too many hoops to jump through!) Really.... the column isn't that bad to take apart, you need to disassemble it to get at the wiring anyways. Interfacing with the factory ring is relatively easy, there is no pleasant way of doing a normal transponder ring, you have to interface with the factory one.
