Should I install my alarm myself. I was looking at the Prestige APS-992A. Just a little bit of history about myself before you make your decision. I worked for National Guardian systems for 4 years (bought out my Ameritech) installing burglary alarms, fire alarms, CCD camera, card access systems, and gate entry. I even had to build a custom alarm panel from resistors and relays so it would do what a customer wanted it to do. I know a little about circuitry. I have looked at professional installed car alarm systems, and they really don't look at much differenat than home alarm systems. Basicly the brain reads a certain resistance value, and if that value changes it sets the alarm; through open circuits or dead shorts. The outputs on the alarm are basicly form c relays?? correct?? You wire up the wire from the starter through a normally closed side of the relay. when the alarm goes off, it opens the relay???? Let me know if I'm close. Thanks for your input.

With the knowledge that you have I'm sure you can install a basic alarm system with the proper wiring datasheet for the vehicle and some assistance here. The alarm systems are easy to do, it's the remote starts that you have to worry about now a days. Post questions if you have any more about your installation. Just curious, what make, mode and year vehicle is this alarm going into ? ------------- Jeff

i am sure that you can do it wiithout any problems. i do not know half of what you are talking about in your post and i managed to install a viper 791xv in my honda accord in 4 hours on my first try. i am more of a hands on type of person and i learn by looking at things rather than reading and studying about them. since you already have that aspect covered, i am sure you will be just fine. personally, if you can see colors and strip a wire, i think you can install an alarm.

With that kind of knowledge and experience that you have I know you will do just fine. Just post your questions here if you run into trouble. I am sure there are enough people here who can help you out. ------------- Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.

Thanks to everyone who replied. Velocity Motors, I am installing the alarm in a 2000 Dodge Durango. The vehicle only has a remote lock/unlock with panic to the horn. I don't have to use the remote to open the doors. I don't think I have to worry about that at all.??.??? Velocity Motors wrote:

snguyen, Thanks for the wiring diagrams. They will help. I hope you don't mind if I PM you if I have any further questions about the 2000 durango. If anyone else has a 2000 (or similar) model durango I would like to know. Thanks guys, you all have been a great help.
