I just installed the ProStart CT-5000 on my 1999 Lumina. Everything works properly except fot the lock, unlock and trunk release.

When I hit unlock or unlock on the remote, the alarm chirps and arms or disarms, but the doorlocks don't respond. The trunk release button does nothing either.

I connected the (-)lock output wire to the wire in the kick panel that gave me +12V when i pressed lock button in the door. I did the same type of think for the (-)unlock output wire.  I connected the (-)trunk output to the black wire going from the trunk switch to the trunk release.

The car didn't come with OEM remote functions, but I connected the unit pretty much the same way the OEM unit connects on the Haynes schematic.

I probed the unlock output wire while pressing unlock on the remote and only got a quick 0.3V reading. Shouldn't this be sending out 12V?

How important is the pulse rate? This thing can be programmed to give out 1/10sec, 7/10sec, 4sec or double 1/4sec pulse rates. I think the default is the 7/10.

Thanks in advance.

I should also add that this car has no passkey, OEM alarm or anything like that -- former police car.

U need + Positive Pulse not Negative.  If your RS cannot switch Polarity U will need 2 SPDT Relays or U could use OMEGA DLPP-33 Door Lock Pulse

Positive Pulse Door Locks

Yea, the trunk release switch I hooked up to is actually black with a white stripe. So I need three relays then?

Yes, you need three relays. Two to make POSITIVE PULSE to the door locks. One to make a POSITIVE PULSE to the trunk release.

Thanks for the help guys.

So my options are hooking this up:

...plus, a third one for the trunk release.

Or one of those for trunk and an OMEGA DLPP-33 Door Lock Pulse.

How exactly does that Omega unit work? Does it reverse polarity?

And on the relay, does the 87A connector get hooked up to ground or do I just leave it unused as it is?

Leave 87A unused, and yes it reverses the polarity.

I went to a car audio store got the pulse converter and a relay. Hooked them up and everything works great.

Again, thanks for the help.

One other question...

The way I mounted the control unit, it's pretty close to the floor blower duct, but not in it's direct path.  Does a blower generate enough heat to damage the system in any way?

That could depend on how HOT your heater gets

A futher note, if you are worry about the heat getting to the unit. You can remove the Styrofoam on the steering column and mount the unit there. I wouldn’t be too concern about the heat affecting the unit, just worry about water getting into it if you haven't got a safe place to put it.

Your heater can get +/- 192 degrees, the same temp as your engine.
