if the solonoids i want to trigger need 24 volts how can i safely control them off an alarm with only 12 volt output?
good idea?    bad idea?

Use a relay or solenoid that requires 12 volts to activate and send the 24 volt signal out from the relay. It will work you just need an extra part, the relay.
