Hi I am attempting to install a Matrix 3.5 into a 2000 Jeep Cherokee. I am stuck on what the term key side / starter side means exactly. DOH. And I cant seem to find any info on it. It just looks like a starter wire to me. Also if anyone has any specific information on wiring the door lock / door unlock it would be appreciated. flip

They might be refering to the starter kill relay, and wether whatever connection you are making is supposed to be hooked up between the key and the relay or the relay and the starter.
Some context for the term would be helpfull. ------------- Gavin

When you cut the starter wire to install a disabling relay, there re two sides to the cut wire. One side if you trace it back to the end will be the keyside & the other side of the wire will be the starter side.

i always use the terms starter side and key side. if you are refering to one of my posts it means... when you find the starter wire you cut it. then you have two sides. one side leads to the key cylinder and the other to the starter solenoid. the key side is sometimes referred to as the switch side. Just like jeff said.in the previous post

Orange /purple is negative lock ,pink /purple is negative unlock both is at drivers kick . Use a relay to trigger n close all doors when testing or if the drivers door is the only one open use a pen n click back the door locking pin. So the car will think the door is closed when it is actually open.

Hey misterjimbo, in the original post dwightfm also wanted to know about the door locks. The information I have is different than his though: Use ORANGE / black and pink/black at the drivers door lock switch to lock and unlock the drivers door. Use ORANGE / purple and pink/purple at the passengers door lock switch to lock and unlock all of the other doors. This is a type C system and you need to use 2 relays to bypass or use the JDL module for easier integration . ------------- Jeff

thanks velocity... on directechs they have the same info as ricemans. and say that you have to use relays. I have not done one myself without the directed module. dwightfm... however jeff has never steered me wrong. and this would not be the first time directed tech support was wrong

The vehicle being discussed here is a Cherokee, not a Grand Cherokee. Totally different vehicles. The Grand Cherokee needs a module for the doorlocks, while the Cherokee doesn't. Riceman was correct in what he stated, while Velocity was referring to a Grand Cherokee.

2000 Jeep CHEROKEE Must use relays to trigger the lock and unlock wires. Close all doors when testing. POWER LOCK|ORANGE / purple *2 |- |drivers kick panel

I will reiterate. I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee and I'm trying to Install a Matrix 3.5 starter / alarm. This is where I'm at on the starter. Red to Red Green to key side Purple to starter side Pink / White to Blue Orange to Black / White I have checked the connections and they seem alright. Is there something that I'm missing? Also what do I do with the White / Blue wire (remote start activation input) from harness 1? flip
