The best place to mount it would be fairly centrally in the car. For instance, your center console might have some good places.
Depending on the brand and model of the alarm and the make/model of the car, people might have other suggestions, and you may not have to choose between the two sensors.

I have an audiovox unit in my car and I hooked up both sensors in my car. It was not without complication though. Through a month of testing and single handedly upsetting everyone in a three block radius I got it to work. I plugged the shock into the port as usual. I hooked up the motion sensor up to constant and the ground output when armed. I used an instant negative trigger on the alarm for full alarm aka second stage. Then I hooked up first stage to the first stage on the shock. I had to diode isolate this because I kept on getting false alarms. If you do not have an extra alarm trigger input you can hook the second stage up to the shock as well, but diode isolate it. The only disadvantage is that you do not get any zone identification.
