I am looking for the bulb check wire in a 1996 Chevy Cavalier. The car is equipped with Passlock I and according to numerous sources--it has a bulb check wire that needs to be accessed for remote start. It is supposed to be a 20 gauge black wire in the ignition switch harness but I've looked all over. One source said it is in a 6-pin black connector on the left side of the steering column but I can't remove the bottom shroud because the steering wheel adjuster won't unscrew--it's jammed. Help!

If U R talking about the Tilt Lever......U could use a pair of needle nose vise grips or wrap the bottom part of handle with tape and use pliers or vise grips. I think GM uses Lock-Tite, because those R hard to unscrew sometimes ------------- MO

thanx draasch. hey mo12v, believe it or not, i already did what you suggested and the tape actually started to lose it's grip--that's how jammed this thing is. does this wire extend under the dash or is it limited to the steering column? cause if i can't get that shroud off, i'm gonna have to look elsewhere.

On the tilt lever, you will see where the plastic ends, and the metal part begins, there is about a half an inch of exposed that you can grab with a pair of needle nosed vice grips. Yeah, it will tear it up a bit, but either some sandpaper and flat black paint or some heat shrink tubing, and voila, almost as good as new (GM uses some kind of threadlocker in this little handle... why, I haven't a clue).
The bulb check wire is located on the same plug as the 2 12V wires and the brown accessory. The bulb check is the small black wire.
Hope this helps!
