Subject: REMOTE START PROBLEMS

I recently bought a 1996 Pontiac Bonneville that has a remote car alarm.  I believe part of the alarm includes a remote start.  There are times when I can not start the vehicle at all, it will not turn over.  I wait 5 to 10 minutes and it will start up immediately.  The dealer I bought it fromt has no idea how to operate the remote, either do I.  The buttons that are on the remote are the basic (lock, unlock, open trunk).  This is very aggravating and I do not know who to turn to for help in how to work this - I've never had a remote before.  Any ideas, suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Can you get us an FCC ID number off the back of the remote control ? This way we can help you identify the unit that is in the car as well as trouble shoot why the car doesn't start all the time.

Here's the FCC Number KOBOT1BT.   I know it is some type of anti theft thing that is not letting the vehicle start - I just don't know how to work it or disable it.

I can't find anything on the remote control. Could you get underneath your dash area to see if you can find the FCC number of the CPU ( Brain of the alarm ) ? The company associated with the above FCC ID is Lear Corporation and there is no FCC ID number that relates to the one that you have.

I got your message but I didn't see any information.  Is there a website I need to go to.  What is CPU?

Ok, I know what you mean by CPU.  I will try to get that from underneath the dashboard.  DO you just need the FCC number again?

That and also the brand name of the unit if it has it engraved on the casing.

Jeff, don't give up on me yet.  I haven't had time to get someone to go under the dashboard and get me this information.   I really need to find out how to correct this - it is a real nuisance.  I think I may have it disconnected because if I leave the car for 3 minutes to go in the store - the alarm goes off when I open the door.   I will try to get this information for you and hope you can help me.

try holding down the lock and unlock buttons for about 5-10 seconds while beside the car. My girlfriend has a 1997 cavalier, and if her car bat dies, i have to do that to get the remote to work. after about 5-10 seconds, it should lock the doors if it is the right remote/car interface..
