i`m working on a 2003 ion and i`m having trouble putting a remote start on it. what it's doing is this..... remote door locks & trunk pop work perfect (not factory). The remote start works intermittently, when it does work you could remote start it but the passlock symbol would light up and the odometer read "service vehicle", when you  put the key in to disarm the remote start and drive the vehicle the passlock symbol would still be lit up and the "service vehicle" message was still displayed. When you then shut the car off with the key & start it with the key everything is normal. If you try to start the car with the key again the car would go into protect mode and you would have to wait 10 minutes before starting the car again. i am using the code alarm remote start CSI400 and the PLXR bypass using the ion wiring diagram (not passlock I or II). After all of that, i decided to use two relays instead of the PLXR bypass but, the car did that same thing all over again. if anyone could me out that would be great!! Is there a special way of hooking this up? could I have a bad code alarm starter? THANKS

Try hooking up the PLXR again but this time jumper the BROWN wire straight to ground instead of using the ground out when running wire off the remote start. Sometimes a weak GOWR wire doesn't allow for the module to work properly. This has been something that has happened to me on more than one occasion. Now if this happens, I just use a relay to convert a (-) to (-) signal to boost the GOWR wire.

Jeff,

Can you share how you boost the GOWR wire?

Jeff,

Bad news... I tried using the relay as you described but it didn't work. Maybee I hooked it up wrong. You said to jumper the brown wire from the plxr directly to ground and not to the negative output from the remote starter. This was a little confusing to me so this is what I did......... On the relay: I hooked #86 to 12 volt fused constant, # 87 to chassis ground, # 30 to the plxr bypass, & #85 to the negative output from the remote starter. This did not work, the car would try to start but would not. So then I tried hooking the brown wire directly to ground, when I did this the relay clicked and the plxr bypass did not show signs of power and would not program. When programming the plxr you have to start the car, cut the white wire and then splice the 2 plxr wires (all while the car is running). When you cut the white wire the odometer showed "service vehicle". Is this normal? I took the main remote start brain out and exchanged it for a new one. I'm putting it in Saturday afternoon, if this doesn't work do you have any ideas?? Thanks, Matt

whoa, what are you doing?

the PLXR needs to be completly wired into the vehicle.

there's two sets of instructions one for hybrid cars (ION, canyon/colordo etc) and one for regular passlock.

they hybrid cars use a crank input to activate it at a certain time.

programming is easy, start car and hold key to start position. car has built in antigrind so don't worry.

press and release button, LED will flash once.
Unit is programmed.

The PLXR is completly wired to the vehicle right now using the ion wire diagram. I did program the PLXR and the LED did flash once. I continue to get the "service vehicle" message. I even tried a new remote start brain. Sorry if my last post was a little confusing.  Any ideas?? Thanks Matt
