i got a viper 300ESP alarm installed yesterday in my 2000 4runner.... this morning i go to get into my car, and i can turn the ignition on, but cannot move the gear shift from park into drive. the odometer, gas gauge, air condition, power windows do not work. im guessing this is some type of protection mode... now after fiddling around with it for a while, when locking and unlocking the car, it doesnt even chirp. is this sign of a bad install, or is it in a protection mode?? i do not think i have a valet switch, as i cannot find one, and was told nothing about one when it was installed. i got it installed at freemans road gear, which is a chain in SC and NC... thanks for your time, i hope you can help!!

there is no protection mode on the viper 300 and trhe reason why it stopped chirping is because you put it in valet mode with the remote control. This sounds like a bad install. Take the car back and thjey should fix what is wrong this is not normal operation for a viper alarm or any that i have seen.

while a door is opened and you press arm disarm then arm again you enter valet mode the light on your dash should stay on telling you it is in valet but everything else you explained sounds like installer error. Take it back and have them fix it there is nothing you should do its there problem to fix.

Yes this does sound like a bad install. Almost sounds like they left a main harness unplugged. I would take it back and let them know I was not pleased. be sure to tell them all the stuff that no longer works. Good luck. brianh

Call the shop back and get them to come down to your place to get the 4Runner back into running condition to take it back to the shop. This is the least they could do. I would do this for any of my customers if this were to have happened to one of our installations. It's better that the shop that did the work look into this because if you are to go into the system and move things around, the shop will blame it on you saying that it was probably working fine until you moved some stuff around . That's what warranty is for  ------------- Jeff

I agree with Jeff; call the shop first and see how they plan to deal with it. They may come fix it at your house, they may pay for a tow, or they may tell you to take a hike...but you'll find out once you call them. My guess is that one of the fuses powering the ignition wiring blew. Check the fuses marked AM1 and AM2; replace any that are blown. These fuses may be in the fuse box near the driver's left knee, or in the one under the hood. If the new fuse blows immediately, the problem will obviously have to be repaired before the car can be driven again. If it doesn't blow, you can carefully drive directly to the alarm shop, but bring a few spare fuses in case you have trouble along the way.
