Subject: rs cuts off when door is open
Date Posted: November 06, 2004 at 11:39 AM

I installed a Ready Start RS/Alarm . It is by design Tech model#24737 . It is installed on a 98' caravan. The issue I am having is that the van is remote started it stays on till the door is open and you enter the van.

Now I have isolated the problem to the door trigger wire but can't figure out how to issolate the wire so the unit does not see feed back. If I have the door trigger wire dissconnected rs works fine. When connected it shuts down then restarts .

I have put a diode on the wire which issolates the issue but when doing so it kills the door trigger for the alarm.

Can anyone help me with this issue?

Thank you in advance .....

Did you hook up the DisArm wire from the Remote Start

Could you tell us how you connected the remote starter? Typically you connect the disarm wire from the remote starter to the factory disarm in the vehicle.

Stupid question: Is the alarm armed when this happens? If so, then everything appears to be working fine.

Why would you say it is working fine?

It happens with alarm armed or disarmed. It does not matter. At the monent I have a diode on it so it is not doing it . The RS works fine for the moment but that doors do not triger the alarm as the should .

If I remove the diode alarm works fine doors trigger and all , RS works but cuts out after a few seconds ofdoor being open.

I really want both to work. What can I do ?

Don't know if you have Factory Alarm prior to installing RS, if you do then here is wiring

OEM Alarm ArmWHITE/ D GREEN (-)BLACK 14 PIN CONNECTOR
OEM Alarm DisarmWHITE/ D GREEN (-)IN DRIVER KICK PANEL *

Reversal Rest At Ground Power Window Circuit
* OEM Arm & Disarm Is The Same As Door Lock Wire. Requires Chassis Ground Thru A 4020 Ohm Resistor To Arm And Chassis Ground Thru A 665 Ohm Resistor To Disarm OEM Alarm.

No factory alarm

What I meant was that starter alarm combos typically shut down the car if a zone is violated and the car has been remote started. If this happens whether armed or disarmed, I would guess faulty install or faulty unit. By any chance did you install a hood pin and connect it to your door trigger so the alarm would detect the hood opening? If you did, did you diode isolate the hood pin from the door trigger?

I have a seperate hood pin wire . The door trigger is a seperate zone . Now I understand what you are saying But my thing is that if that is the case it should stay off . This unit is starting right back up after shutting down.

I am not sure what to do anymore....

How do you have the door triggers connected to the alarm? My notes show seperate wires for each door and tailgate making that 5 wires you need to connect to. If this is how you have it set up, then I have a diagram that shows you need to cut ech wire and install a diode with the band facing away from the BCM. Then you need to make a connection on the door side of each wire and install a diode on each with the band facing the alarm, then connect all 5 wires to your alarm unit.

Before i saw that diagram I was going to suggect using a relay to isolate the door triggers. Like this:
Pin 85 gets connected to all door trigger wires (diode isolate all five wires though still)
Pin 86 12v+ constant
Pin 30 chassis ground (fused)
Pin 87 goes to the alarm door triggers input wire

No I only have one wire hooked up which seems to work for all the doors when I tested it ,

What you are talking about will that this stop my issue with the RS cutting out the restating when door is open?

It might. Which wire and where are you connected?

Dome  Lights/Superv:   BROWN / L GREEN (-)  AT BODY CONTROL MODULE ***

This is what I connected to . Here is the link to the wire codes I have

Ok, what I would try first (if youhave an extra relay handy) is to isolate that wire from the alarm by setting up a relay like I mentioned above. If that doesn't work then you could try cutting the door trigger wire on the vehicle and installing a diode with the band facing away from theh BCM. Then connecting the alarm wire to the side the band is on.

Keep us updated

I will try that and keep you posted . Thanks for the help.

I have a question. With the relay setup will that give me a - output?

No, the door oprning triggers the relay which connects the alarm input wire to ground and tells the alarm the door was opened. Since the door trigger wire goes to ground when the door opens, we can do the same by connecting the alrm wire to ground and use the door trigger wire as the trigger for the relay.
