I'm wondering if there is any relation between a Viper 791 and a Bel radar detector (don't rememember the model) having false alarms? My fiancee has had the Bel detector in her old car and now her new(er) car. In the new car, I've recently had professionally installed a Viper 791. However, ever since the alarm has arrived, she's been experiencing a large amount of false alarms (across all radar bands... X, K, Ka). The only thing I can think of is that the alarm is somehow sending out radar waves? It would possibly make sense (to me of limited knowledge of these things) if it happened while the alarm was armed but this is while the car is being driven and nothing should be transmitted (the alarm should pretty much be de-activated, correct?) Is there something wrong, is this common? Any help would be appreciated. Oh, I've also tested this with my older Bel radar detector and it also sets mine off in her car. Once I put my detector back in my car, it does not false alarm (any more than was normal)

You are correct, the alarm is totally off when the ignition is turned on.  It may be that the car is emitting some sort of signals.  The only way I had experienced false alarms on my radar in the future was when I installed the motion sensor (which I think is a POS), then my radar detector was going crazy with false alarms.  Other than that it is not the alarm.

i have the Clifford 3.5 in my vehicle with a Valentine 1 and it never sets it off........ although if a cell phone rings in the vehicle the V1 freaks out and goes off.....

you didnt install something like the 508D did you?   this would certainly give you this problem......

Yes, there is a motion sensor in the center console.  I'll have to try disabling that to see if it makes a difference.  Maybe pull the plugs on that and then reinstall them when you get to where you're going... then again, this is my fiancee we're talking about.  She'll forget to reinstall it!

The 508D is the motion sensor, correct?
