I'm looking for a bit of help here, so any input would be greatly appreciated.  First, I have a 2003 GMC Sierra (1500 size, regular cab, shortbed).  I just had a Viper 160XV remote starter installed, but the lights are not working how I would like them to.  I'm pretty sure the installer just needs to wire the light output from the brain to a different relay, but he basically tells me, "I wired it according to the DEI diagrams for your truck, and I won't do it any other way even if you don't like it as it is."  Because I am only a little familiar with how all of this stuff works, I am looking for some general or specific help so I can better relate to the installer to get him to do what I want.

Operation of lights w/o remote start:  First, my truck has two sets of lights (three if you count the hight beams).  It has the low beams and SEPARATE lights for the daytime running lights.  When the truck fires up, the low beams are off, but these independent lights come on.  This is how I want the lights to operate with the remote starter.  The low beams come on based on me turning them on by switch or by a light sensor.

Operation of lights with remote start:  Now that the remote starter is installed, the separate daytime running lights do not come on if started with the remote start.  Instead, my low beams come on.  I do not like this.  I want the daytime running lights on and the low beams off, just as it was from the factory.

The installer told me that the DEI wiring directions told him to connect the output from the Viper 160 to my parking light relay.  What happens after that, he can't say.  All he knows is that he did what he was suppose to do.  There has to be a different relay or something, but since I know next to nothing, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully that was clear enough for you to understand the nature of the problem.

Thanks so much for any input.

Using a relay to provide a solid negative output off of the remote starter, parking lights are grey/black stripe at the light switch. Negative trigger. As far as the DRL's are concerened, there should be a wire at the light switch that contols those as well..... they turn off when the switch is turned to "on", so perhaps one has to duplicate this action . I have only ever fired up parking lights on these trucks, never the DRL's, as generally, they tend to come on by themselves with ignition.

If that is the way you want it then disconnect the parking lights from the alarm all together. The computer controls the drl and they turn off if the car thinks the parking lights are on. Don't argue this, either deal with it or disconnect it. Also the alarm is hooked up the way it is intended, if you want it changed expect to pay for it, requests are not FREE.

Oh, the installer you went to is an idiot.

Hey guys, thanks for the input.  I know requests are not free, and I have no problem paying for stuff to be done a certain way.  I'm extremely picky about how stuff is done, but I am willing to pay to get what I want.

Also, I just  thought I'd say one thing about the "installer you went to is an idiot" comment.  You may be right, or maybe not.  Two points, though.  First, when I said "the installer," I was really referring to his boss, the guy that runs the place (and the guy I talked to about the "problem").  Second, I think the guy (the boss) just does not have good personal skills, so instead of trying to work with me and understand what I wanted, he just said, "My guy hooked it up how I told him to do it, which is how DEI says to do it," and he was not willing to do anything else custom.  I believe part of this  was because of the place's warranty issues.  Such an exlanation probably works with most customers, but if I want something done a certain way, I expect more than, "I won't do it."  Honestly, the installer himself, as opposed to his boss, was great.  The actual installer would probalby meet up with me on the side and do every little detail I'd like for a few bucks.  It was the boss that showed up later that didn't seem willing to work with  me for a more custom solution.  The installer actually did a few things for me that I expected him to charge me for.

Anyway, thanks again for your input.  I"ll probably just ask them if they will disconnect the parking lights from the unit.

Thanks again.
