I was putting in my alarm in today and ran into the problem of the wiring being too short to do the job. the box is in the trunk. so far all the wires reach to where they are supposed to except for when went to do the valet switch and led. the wires are like 6 inches long. you should have seen my face. is it ok to cut and splice enough wire to do thr job? the wireis about 20 guage i belive.

I can't think of a single unit that I have ever seen that would have enough wire to mount the unit in the trunk. Most wires I have seen are between 1 and 2 feet long and always get mounted under the dash which is about 10 feet from the trunk on an average vehicle considering the fact that you dont want to run the wires across the top of the seats.

Anyway, lengthening a valet switch is fine.

Short on wire always sucks, It's not best to splice wire, but if you have to you can use wire butt connecters and crimp them tight. Also wrap butts with electrical tape to prevent the wire from potentionly shorting out.

yeah i was planning on soldering everthing.

i had trouble with a neon kit once and when the wires were extended they either wouldn't light up or were very dim. and since this is an alarm i didn't want any voltag problems. I am trying to keep teh wire as close to teh same size as possible.

its an 02 cavalier with too much junk under the dash to install in there. the alarm came with the wiring harness and the wires are about 8 ft + long. so i figured what the hey. I'll put it in the trunk.

its the clifford G5 850

the car has alot of upgrades, suspension, engine, etc.that I wan tot protect. last car I had I got a head unit before i got an alarm. and it was gone before i could get an alarm installed. so this time i'm going the other way around.

the only hard part is finding and identifing the correct wires, and thats not to bad. now its just a matter of time.
