i have a 2000 pontiac grand am ready to leave and i cant get the key cly to trun at all. there is no steering wheel lock and the shifter is in park. i have no idea whats going on with it.

Did you drop the stearing colum when you were working on it ? If so it could be the rod that runs down the stearing colum to the switch OR, the key could be worn not allowing the key cylinder to turn. Hope this helps, good luck, Dutch ------------- First Class M.E.C.P. Certified & 310K Licensed

is the key you have the original or a copy? if it's a copy try inserting the key with the other teeth facing up on the key. i had a key that was a copy and inserting it one way would not unlock the cylider to start the car so i flipped it the other way and it unlocked the key cylinder. the key i had was not cut correctly.

what did you install? did you disconnect any plug or module on the vehicle?

well it ended up getting towed out. i took the dash off for a standard deck install. there was no radio in it from a previous break in. i noticed the key cyl. hang a little when i pulled the car in and thought nothing of it. later on the key just wouldnt turn. i took off the black ring with the key position labels on it with nothing breaking there. the owner had the broken dash replaced with a new shifter too, i guess that was damaged fro mthe theft. i wondered if something there hadnt been re-installed properly and it just happened to go bad on me.
im sure ill get a call tomorrow since the dealership will be open. anyone could have called me but i didnt get the post in time.
i made sure it was fully in park and the wheel lock wasnt on (it didnt have wheel lock at all).

other way around. i could take it in and out, just not to the right, which is accy, run, and start.
