I was going to install a remote start on my wife's
2000 Diesel Beetle w/manual trans. I have installed
remote start on other vehicle w/no problem. Do they
systems for a manual trans wire similar and I could
do it or should I have a installer do it? I dont want
to get in over my head if there is a lot of differance
in installation.
Thank You

Personally, I think you'll be in over your head on this vehicle.

  • Requires a bypass modue
  • requires clutch bypass
  • requires diesel glow plug inputs

Alot of stuff that you need to  know about this vehicle before going head first into this installation. It's up to you though.

The difference is that you need to hook up the door triggers and ebrake wire and then bypass the clutch. So by that means you are not getting in over your head, but a VW, Diesel, manual Transmission all put together makes me think you should consider having it done professionally. There is a anti-theft device along with a factory alarm you need to bypass too. You need to run wires into the door for lock and unlock but they control arming and disarming.

The other thing to consider is that with such an involved install, it will cost twice as much as a normal install so it might be worth your time.

I would study up on everything you need to do before starting, then make your decision.

(Sorry for repeating what Jeff said, I started typing before he did and I took too long to finish everything I wanted to say)

I believe you have made my decision for me. Sometimes
the cheaper way to go is not the CHEAPER way to go!
Thanks for your help.
PS- If I screw it up, I have to keep fooling with it..
If they screw it up THEY get to keep fooling with it!!
