I'm interested in buying a Viper 791XV. I see plenty on Ebay that say new, box unopened, etc. But will I have a warranty from DEI if I buy from Ebay? or do I need to go to an authorized dealer? If so, how much should I expect to pay w/o them installing it?

So now that you will have no warranty and DEI will refuse to help you, buy from an authorized dealer who appreciates and needs your business.

Pfft, screw it, I'm not paying to get it installed, for the price of that, I could buy 3 from Ebay.

and hope it's really new, not stolen, and actually what they claim. Doesn't matter what they say in the ad if it's not from a dealer it's used (some states even go as far as calling unopened returns used merchandise)

I'd buy it from a dealer, but the thing is, I definitely don't want to pay for installation when I can do it myself...

check their feedback and buy from some one who sells alot of a particular brand. ive bought and installed several alarms that were bought of "stores "on ebay and have never had a problem thats including viper, omega,k-9,and avital brands.everyone is just looking for a good deal.

Many times customer's are looking  for the best deal and there are alot to be had on eBay. The only problem is that the item is new and never opened, but when the customer tries to install it themselves on a brand new ( or newer ) vehicle without soldering the connections, something goes wrong and it doesn't work right off the hop. Automatically, the customer doesn't even fathom that it's the installation that is the cause of the non-functioning product.

So, what's the first thing they do.................." You sold me a defective product and I'm pissed !! I want a full refund and you pay for the damages to my vehicle !! " Not that everyone is like this, but it has happend in the past. Not to be a jerk or anything, but if the system was installed by a non-authorized dealer, chances are higher that something is going to go wrong. You can quantify the money that you would save from the intsallation if you do it yourself  and the cost of the unit if you buy from eBay, but up until that first spark is produced and you accidentally burn out the BCM on the vehicle, the $$$ that you would have saved will be pennies in comparison to what the money would be for a new BCM for the vehicle or even the time it's going to take that you will be without a vehicle.
