Today I spent several hours installing a keyless entry system with no apparent problems, beyond the hassle of isolating wires. After wiring up all my relays I tested manual and everything was ok (Lock , not on relay). Then When connected the signal wires to the module, I can here the relays switch but nothing. I verified that the module signals were negative triggers, checked voltage to see if the signal went ground, and checked the system ground (in fact I replaced it with a heavier gauge wire.) Everything checked out ok.

What could my problem be? I have a 2001 Malibu and to reiterate I have the proper resitances for the signle wire system. All the relays operate the doors and trunk via manual ground signal, just not through the modules gnd/neg signal.

The Keyless entry system is a Commando EZ-2500.

The lock on that car has to go through a 1.5k resistor..if I'm not mistaken.

Actually it has to go through 1K through ground.  SORRY TEAMRF, BUT THIS IS ONE OF THE FEW TIMES YOU ARE CLOSE TO RIGHT :)

I have already accomodated for resistor.  Ground testing verifies that a 1.5K resistor works, However daniel2002p you say that a 1k works for you.

In either case I cannot see how this helps me.  Manual ground testing the (external) rely trigger wires functions but the command modules (-) 200ma output on the trigger does not work properly.  In either case I can hear and feel the relay switch.

Could the command module (-) 200ma pulse be too short?

Same is true for the trunk.  The (-) 200ma output triggers my external relay but not trunk pop.  Manual ground testing triggers the relay and pops the trunk.

How do you have the relay setup? Where do you have the 2500 grounded? Maybe try a different location

basic relay setup.  #87 ground (car chasis), #85 12V,  #86 trigger (ground testing works , or Module signal not work) #30 to unlock through 1.5K resistor.  Just as the wiring diagram tells you. (2001 Malibu)

Same for trunk except for the resistor. Lock already works.

I can hear and feel both the relays switch when using both the module triggers and ground test trigger,  but the desired function does not work for the module trigger.  The module is supposed to provide a 1 sec. 200mA ground pulse for both unlock, lock and trunk acording to the install manual.  AND YES IT SAYS GROUND in the manual.

I have even checked function with a multimeter and with both types of signals the voltage drops are virtualy identical, except one works the other doesn't.

I am wondering if the pulse from the module is not long enough or strong enough to provide good contact in the relay switch.  This seems odd because in many cases, simply the module signal can sink enough current without even using a relay in many cars.

I'm calling Commando to get to the bottom of this.

NOTE: After the first sign of problems I replaced the Module system ground with a heavier gauge wire with no change.

ALL ground are directly to car chasis and each has a seperate lead.
