I have a 01 Sportage 2 door, with a factory installed "Checkmate" alarm. It is your basic alarm with door lock/unlock feature. Again, pretty basic. My questions is this: I would like to add a remote starter (it gets pretty cold in NY during the winter) so that I don't have to freeze outside. I would also like to have a feature that rolls up my windows when I shut off the car. To get this, do I need a new alarm system, or can I add on to my current model? Also, since my car is a soft top convertible, and security is a concern, do they offer any sensors for the exposed back area? Meaning a sensor that will set the alarm off if someone tried to reach in? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, and I would like to be able to do the install myself. Thanks, PHENZ

A remote feature would be even better. Again, I am not looking to break the bank either, but would like something good, since I have already invested in my mobile audio/video system, and would not like to have any of it stolen. Thanks again!!

You need a proximity sensor. This will prot ect your car even when the top is down. ------------- Do it right the first time

Is this a sensor that can be added to any alarm, or do I need a special alarm that offers this feature?

Yes, it can be add to any alarm. It has 4 wires: red, black, green and blue that are tapped into the wires of the same color from the shock sensor. Some alarms even have a seperate plug to accomodate this sensor.

I would look for something that has a lifetime warranty on the brains. Blackwidow, DEI products are good, but there warranties change. Stick with something that has a reputation, this way if something does happen to go wrong, replacement parts are available. Just about all alarms do the same thing. Some are just more popular than others.

Thanks for the info. I hope the install will not be too complicated. Hopefully I can disconnect the exisitng alarm, and help simplify the new install..?
