I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. According to the dealer, without a working key, I have to bring it to them so they can marry the new key to the body control module. So about $100 for towing, $45 for the key, $110 for the keyless transmitter, and who knows how much the service cost to program the key...
Is there any way I can force the programming of the new key myself ?? I really do not want to have the darn car towed 20 miles to the dealer.
Any help would be great!
Matt
Unfortunantely, as far as I know, that is the only way to get your carf working again.

anthrax. your vehicle has a theft deterent system that must be reprogramed to the signal (resistance)of the new key (get two).If you have one spare key it is easy to program an other your self.
anthrax. check with your roadside assistance if you still have warranty.
I know that you can get a key cut to your car off the vin number at the dealer, but I doubt they can program it to your car that way. Don't worry about the keyless remote though, you can get them at the junkyard usually for a lot less and I heard Autozone is now selling aftermarket oem replacement remotes. I have access to the info needed to program a replacement remote, but you're out of luck as far as the key goes. you have to have the dealer program it if you have no valid keys. You don't have a remote starter on this vehicle, do you? if you did, you could use it to trick the car into programming the new key? let me know
