Has  anyone had problems with 03/04 explorers with jewel keys.

I just had to refund a customer who was having a "no start" whenever it was cold out.

I tried 3 different manufacturers rings, a crimestopper security ford bypass(which i couldn't even get to learn)and every time i went to service it, it started every time. I even double checked my tach source and swaped the remote start brain, early on before I narrowed it down to the key.

I am just looking for some feedback to  first see if this is a common issue and see what modules work for everyone.

thank you

Rich

your best bet is to use one of those universal ones, where you place the key inside the module and a ring around the key cylinder.

Hey, I have yet to have a problem.  We use the DEI 556U (similar to the units Dan is talking about)

I originally used a crimestopper ring,  than switched to an audiovox ring, and finally a dei 555u. I have used all three in the past, myself but never found much differance except ring size. I placed them around the ignition cillendar and also tried to sinch it down with a small YRtie( making sure not to crunch it too much) The thing is, the placement of the ring wasn't the issue, the key is most deffinetly getting cold. I say this because if you try to remote start it and it doesn't go,start it with the key that was in the house, put on the heat for 5 min. try the remote again no problem. The ring seems to be fine.

I have 15 or 20 out on the street and 2, are now giving me problems. it was warm here in NY this past week we will see what happens when it gets cold again.

I had this problem once and switch to a different key to the vehicle.  This fixed the problem.  I guess the key didn't produce a strong enough signal for the universal bypass to work correctly.  It did start the car, but it didn't work in the bypass unit.

thankyou for all your help on this matter.

my sister has an explorerand i have put a cs-900 starter into it and used a "key-less" programable bypass and so far it is good.
