After installing my Valet 55R in my 04 Ram Diesel which took me about 11 Hours I thought I could tackle my wifes 05 Equinox.   I was shooting for 5 hours but it turns out that was overly optimistic.  It took me 13 hours instead.  I did a much cleaner install on this one but it was way more difficult than I expected.  I do find it challenging work so it keeps me alot more interested than just changing someones Tie rod end .

Kudos to the guys that can do this everyday and still have skin left on their finger tips.  Mine fell a little raw today.

Thanks for the help on this site, I definatley couldnt have done it without this site

Now here's your next test Grasshopper............. try installing a RS/alarm into an import with half the room and twice the wires posted_image. If you can do it, you are one with the universe.

I agree with Velocity Motors, you had a huge truck and a lot of space, when you get to a Honda Civic where there is no room to even breathe, then things get complicated.

i think imports(honda and toyota) are generally easier to find the wires. and stuff, though your right on the no room thing.

I have to give them credit for soldering all the wires. I just did two RS and used t taps ( I know, I'm bad) and everything works fine. I don't know how you guys do it being most of the wires in new cars are 18-22 guage and the lack of room to get you hands in tights spots.

I'm wondering the same thing.  After inspecting underneath my dash I'm wondering how the hell I'm going to get a soldering iron up in there!

Its tricky and  definalty have burnt myself more times than I care to remeber, but I tell my customers I will solder all the conections and I am not about to go back on that just because it was inconvenient. When I solder the lock wires on mid 90's intrepids, I cant actually see the wires when I am doing it due to space restrictions, so its all by memory and feel. I burn myself almost every time. Some jobs will just always suck

I guess I'll just have to deal with it when I tackle my car this spring.  I was outside today and I looked it over thoroughly, found all the wires I needed, and scoped out places to mount components.  Although, I must say, that soldering like you said, will be very tricky.  Maybe I'll where a long sleeved shirt although, I suppose I'll still get burned though on the face or something.

Just make sure your safe about it. If you think you are gonna get in a position where you can burn your face, then do me a favor and put on a pair of glasses first.

Thanks for all the comments guys.   Thanks Cruisin!

I did solder all my connections on both vehicles.   With all the resistors and diodes on the Dodge I thought that the Chevy would be easier but I was wrong.  It turns out that the tach signal was not working on the Equinox so I had to use voltage sense. The wire is a tach signal but it only read .3 volts at idle and up to 1.5 volts at high RPMs so the unit would not sense it.  Also, you can't use the starter kill relay hooked up to the wire wire that DEI says, unless you want to Disarm first before you remote start and then Rearm after it starts.

I don't think it will help any of you guys but I did donate $20.  Thanks again for all the help

If you connect your starter wire comming off of the remote start output to the starter side (going away from the key cylinder) along with the starter kill relay your starter will still see 12 volts even though the wire is open to your key cylinder.  Its kind of like having a starter kill / anti-grind that only closes the starter wire when the doors are unlocked through the remote start and the car is not running under the remote starts power.

write back if you need more help
