I just finished installing a remote starter on a 99 GMC Sierra. During installation and testing the security warning came on in the message center.

The truck starts fine normally and also remote starts fine too. But the security warning still remains on.

Does it have to be reset by a GM dealer or is this another problem??

Thanks

Matthew

What did you use to bypass the Passlock system ? Your resistance value may not be close enough to the proper value that the alarm system is allowing and is returning an error. The truck will start within 5 % error but most of the time the OEM alarm system needs to be within 1 %. Also, did you hook up the second ignition wires on the truck ?

Also, it is possible that you have just tripped the light during installation and it just needs to be cleared. You can clear it by disconnecting the (-) battery terminal for 10 minutes. After you do that, use the remote start and see if the light comes back on. If so, then you need to check your passlock II resistance and your ignition outputs like Jeff recommended. Oh, and test your resistance with a meter. Don't just go by the stripes on the resistor (if that's what you are using). Hope this helps.

I used the DEI 555L to bypass the unit. So i didnt have to measure any resistance. I got the 2nd iginition hooked up too. I think it mught just be set. I will try the batteyr thing.

Thanks
