2002 Chevy Trailblazer remote start

I have a 2002 trailblazer in my shop right now for a remote start/alarm package.The alarm part of the install went without a hitch.The remote start is a puzzle.Keep in mind I have the 791 bypass module (not installed as yet)But I have the rest all hooked up.When I try the remote start w/ the key in and on the ON position the relays in the starter unit kick in but nothing happens(even though the remote start is putting power to the Yellow vehicle starter wire)UNLESS I first bump the starter with the key,then the remote starter will crank and start the engine.YYou can hear what sounds like a relay energizing in the steering column when you bump the starter with the key. Make sense to anyone out there?Also,am having trouble finding the PassII wires from the ignition switch.The colors from the 791 module do not seem to match anything on the vehicle.Any help here would be GREATLY appreciated.

wait a sec you are trying to r/s the car w/o the passlock bypass hooked up? that will not work, even if the key is in the ign. it is not like a transponder type chip in the trailblazer.

passlock wires should be yellow and black or org/blk
but you will never have a problem with that if you take off the steering column and look at the wire colors coming off the cylinder! what is a 791 anyway what brand is that?

In answer to your question,yes,I own this shop.I am not so fortunate as to start out knowing EVERYTHING.Of course,if we all knew everything,we wouldn't need this forum,now would we?Anyway,now that the brow beating is done with.The bypass module is from crimestopper for passI passII and passIII. I would not have asked about the starter had it not ben for the fact that is is recommended to check the starter out with the key in the switch to verify that everything is ok on the starter end before proceeding to the bypass wiring.I guess I must be a bit ignorant on some of this,but the 2002 Malibu I put a system in started just fine with the key in the switch and in the ON position before the bypass module was wired in.Go figure? Anyway,thanks for the input,I'm sure this will be of help to me....                                                                                                      Joe

to simplify your installation use a PLDATA no need to cut wires it works trough data bus or use GMU7 a piece made by crimestopper that will contoll you doorlocks as well as Paslock 2. trust me on this one , I  own a Trailblazer. Tis type of car is not like a transponder, the key has to be turn to give it the rigth resistance to the BCM, but if you did a new malibu they have transponder keys. Anyway good like, Keep using this forum is great help to many installers like you self.

Is up to the installer to test all wires with a DMM whenever possible.

im not critizing you for not knowing everything. hey Ive been doing this for 8 years and still learn something everyday. Anyway you have to be more cofident in your wiring. If you are cofident that you hooked it up correctly you dont have to check everything as you go. dont get me wrong its not a bad idea to do that anyway. but in this case the best way to test for a resistor bypass in a gm is to hook it up and try it out. with experience you will notice when something goes wrong how to fix it and what is wrong. After a few non starts in a gm you should be able to tell the difference if its a passlock problem or ign. prob. If there is a problem w/ the passlock the security light should flash on the dash too. also not to start a big arguement in this post but the DEI 555L is a superior product for GM bypass and the 556U for any other chip bypass. I used to use the excaliber and bypass kit ones too a long time ago. I then switched to DEI and wondered what the hell I was doing using the other ones. DEI has the best tech support by far and is opened longer than any other in the country!! try calling crimestopper for a tech. you get directed to an answer machine! Not a supior product DEI and Audiovox is the way to go.

Yes,I agree,there must be something out there better than the bypass I am using(with all the DIP switches and all.Thank you guys SO much for the input and advise.It's good to know there are places and people like this to help out in a pinch.I will definitly be using the DEI module on my next GM install.
