I am putting the Commando Alarms RS-Combo (Alarm, Keyless Entry, and Remote Start) on my wife’s '96 Dodge Ram 1500 Ext Cab. I hooked up the remote start stuff first, and then the alarm and they both worked fine when I tested them. Then I hooked up the "reverse polarity door locks" and the starter interrupt relay they sent me. After that, the locks and alarm worked fine, but the starter didn't. I then realized that I had put the starter wire from the remote control module on the wrong side of the starter, so I moved it from the key side of the starter wire, to the starter side of that wire. I tested it, and it worked fine. When I came back the next day to tidy up all the wires and close up the dash panel, the truck would not start, and the battery was nearly dead. I have tried jumping the battery to start it, and the motor turns over just fine, but will not start. I am getting a spark, and I have fuel pressure coming out of the schrader valve. So what did I do? Even After I unhook all the connections, it still will not start. Thanks ------------- Marcus Underwood

When you unhooked all the connections did you re-connect the starter wire together ? Wht did your battery go dead ?? Did you use any relays in the system other than the door lock and the starter disable ? Did you arm the system beofre you left the truck over night ? ------------- Jeff

I unhooked all the connections, but I left the starter relay in place on the starter wire, I know it is working, becuase the motor turns over, if it was not, then the starter should not turn at all, right? I have no idea why the battery went dead, I measured the current draw on the battery, and I was only drawing 0.04 amps. I used no other relays other than the starter disable and the Door Lock Realy Module from Commando. Yes, the system was armed, it arms itself after a few minutes of sitting idle after you close the door. Should I take the starter kill relay off the starter wire? I do not see that this should make a difference becuase the relay is normally closed between the two ends of the starter wire. I think the problem is somewhere else, but I just can't think where............??????????? ------------- Marcus Underwood

You may have a faulty relay ? Take this relay out and see if the truck starts. If the relay is faulty then it will draw current all the time. Do you remember if any of the relays felt hot to the touch after you disconnected the system ?

Not a faulty relay, we have tested it. They relay should have nothing to do with it, because the wire it is on only controls the starter. The starter turns the motor over, therefore it should not have anything to do with that. I has to be somewhere else in the wiring, what about the Ignition wire? What does that control? I only hooked up one, but according to one wiring diagram for my truck , there are two, but the one they say it is, is not an ignition wire. If there are two ignition wires, and I only hooked up one, could this have messed something up?

If you unplugged everything already and the truck doesn't start then I can't see there being a problem. Is the unit out of the truck now ? ------------- Jeff

I got it running somehow, I think my problem was unrelated. Actually I think it was a couple of problems together: leaving the door open for 8 hours or so while hooking up all the wires which left 5 or more light bulbs in the cab burning, and getting a tank of gas with water in it from the cheap gas station. I also cranked the engine alot when it was about dead, and while trying jump start it. I believe this collapsed the lifters from lack of oil pressure. I finally got it started by pumping the accelerator alot and alot of cranking while jumping from my other truck. Thanks for the help anyway, I was stumped, so was my dad, who is an Electrical Engineer. ------------- Marcus Underwood
