Hi, i am looking at buying a Viper 671XV 2-way Vehicle Security And Convenience Alarm. I just want to know if any one else has one of these alarms, and if so what they think bout it? How good are they, and wat sort of add-ons they have used and how they seem to go.

Cheers!

I have a 791XV since 1 year. I had many other alarms before but my Viper alarm with responder is my favorite ! ALWAYS work fine ! The installation manual is really good. The remote is a real battery eater but it don't matter for me.  BUY IT !

Viper is an excellent alarm.  DEI stands behind there products.   I install them daily and the customers love them.  I own a viper 671.

I hate for my fist post to be negative, but I am very dissatisfied with my Viper and disagree with the statement that "DEI stands behind their products."

After five years (installed by a very reputable Viper dealer), my Viper has gone completely caput.  It had malfunctioned several times in the past, but I was always able to reset it.  This time it was a no go.  Luckily, we only had a starter kill (not ignition kill), so I was able to push start the car to get it home and later push start it to get to the alarm dealer.  The local Viper dealer (not the same as the installer, due to a move) diagnosed that the "brain" had malfunctioned and was defective.   I am having them pull it and replace with keyless entry only.

The "lifetime warranty" is just a marketing ploy.  You still have to pay labor to remove the unit, labor to install the "remanufactured" replacement unit, and shipping and handling both ways.  Not to mention the wait time between when the old unit is pulled, mailed in and the "new" unit mailed back and installed.  It was considerably cheaper for the dealer to install keyless entry than to replace the alarm under warranty.

I'm not saying that any other manufacturer is different (in fact, I doubt they are), just be warned up front.

d a viper that was 8 yrs old went bad DEI replaced it and I installed it on my own, Cost was time only and the unit was a upgrade to my old one. I am not a dealer.

DEI told me that if I removed the unit it would void the warranty.  They would only accept the old unit from a licensed dealer and would only send the "new" unit to a licensed dealer.

I think it also depends on what shop you take it to. Our shop no longer sells DEI, but if we installed your alarm, we'll pull it, send it to DEI, and reinstall whatever they send back (often a whole new upgraded alarm), all for free.

Just my $.02,

Me

Campingcolorado,  It sounds to me that you were ripped off by the shop that did your work.  Being that the Viper had a lifetime warranty on the brain.  That shop should have replaced it for you at no additional cost to you.  They should have sent the bad unit in.  Sounds more to me that your the shop that installed your unit won't stand behind their work.
