need some more experienced help. im really new in the me industry but im quickly starting to love it. my question is...
im thinking about just buying a cheap remote start only system untill i can afford one of the 2way clifford systems. the wiring chart for my 97 cheve cavalier says my car has 3 ign wires. the cheap remote start system only has 2 ign wire slots. will it work? and what is the diff between the different ignition wires?
It's easy to add a third ign output to a remote starter. You will actually need two relays which are controlled by one of the existing ign outputs. From each of these relays, you can connect the necessary outputs to the car. So for example, you would connect the +12V output of one of the remote starter's ign wires to energize the coils of the two new relays. Each of the relays would then be able to provide current to the necessary wires without backfeeding the car's normal circuits. If you need further clarification or more details, just ask.
The difference between the ignition wires is that they control different circuits in the vehicle. Some will not be absolutely necessary to start the car, but omitting them may cause error lights to light up on the dashboard. Check Engine, ABS, etc. In some cases, the car will start, but the heater will not come on.
