Subject: Very Huge Problem

Earlier I was taking my alarm off of my 2001 Honda Accord EX so I can re-do it. As I was pulling wires from one spot to another some sparks flew, and under my hood I blew a 50a fused. It was labeled, "Main Fuse." I went to pep boys, and bought another one. Now I've put it in..nothing is working, and the car won't start. The clock inside the car doesn't work....the light that flashes behind the radio when the faceplate is removed doesn't work. The battery has 11 volts on it..but when I try to crank it..it drops down to like 9 or 10..then it jumps back up. When I tried to jump it..it went from 13 down to 11. It is almost like the ignition wires are not getting 12volts..but i tested them and they are. Anyone know of any remedies for this?

Wow. Does the radio or ac come on with the key? Also pull all the main box fuses from the fuse box under the hood and check them for continuity with your meter.

Neither the A/C or radio comes on...I will go try to pull all the main fuses. There is a fuse marked "battery" under the hood I don't think it would be that one. It is a 100amp fuse. The sparks weren't even that big. I was surprised it blew the 50Amp fuse. I really hope it is not the bcm.

yo Teamrf, figures :), anyway here is what your problem probably is, you have blown more than one fuse, if the 50 amp failed then some of the 20 and 30amp have also, go through your whole fuse box and make sure that all your fuses are in tact.  If you need help give me a ring, I am off Thursday.

I have seen the 100 amp fuse blow in hondas under the same situations. Pull it and check. Most people can't see the blows in these types of fuses and is just easier to run continuity.

if you disconected your alram to re-do it did you check to see if you had a starter kill installed? could be as simple as hooking ignition back up to it.

Well I hope it is fuses and nothing more like a computer.. I will take all of them out and check them...I really hope I can get this figured out..if not I will not go to sleep with my car outside. And another thing when I hooked up ignition ground, and 12v to my alarm everything worked fine.....But the dome lights are not working or the headlights are not working...

This car is making an a** out of me. I repositioned the fuse..and I got the radio..keysense..headlights..and dome lights working but now the igntion won't engage like it was before this stuff started working. I've checked all of the large fuses under the hood for continuity..I can't really think of nothing else to try. Maybe now I need to have the car jumped or something..but the dash lights are dim..but it sometimes does this until I start it up and get on the gas. Anyone have any ideas?

I would check the fuse holder, if you can get access to the back side of the fuse panel.  Maybe you'll find a burned wire or bad connector.  I don't know about hondas but ford and gm have fusable links to handle high amperage connections.

And remember..

You might try posting your problem on these Honda Forums.  There are alot of people on these sites that know their Hondas inside and out.

first of all, get your hands on a battery charger and connect it to the battery. it sounds like you have a weak battery to begin with, so going around trying to trouble shoot with a battery below proper voltage won't help you. if a battery charger is unavailable to you, find another car and hook up jumper cables as if you were going to jump start the car.

then turn your ignition on (not necessarily start the car) and go check ALL your fuses.....left and right side fuse panels, and any fusible link you can find under the hood. use a test light (yes, really....you won't hurt anything) to check every last fuse you can find. if everything's good, there's no reason why you should not be able to start your car with your key unless your ignition barrel is faulty, or your ignition harness wires are cut (ie. check to see if you there's a starter disable of some form still in there).

the only remaining possibilities are that your factory immobilizer is not recognizing your key (unlikely, but who knows?), or there's something wrong with your car that is not alarm related. good luck!

I got all the accessories to power back up..the battery is reading 11.30 volts..and it is not starting. I'm thinking the battery may be trash because I've been having trouble with it for a few weeks now. When I try to crank it-it drops down to 10 volts.

When you try to crank the car over, does it make a click, click click or is there nothing at all ? If there's nothing at all it sounds like the ICM in the distributor ( Ignition Control Module ). If it clicks and no start, it's battery related. I've had many Accord's that have had the ICM go and with the electrical surge you had, it may have damaged the ICM.

No it tries to start..but it is not enough juice...then after a few tries of that it clicks and it doesn't start. Right now the battery is at 11.3 volts. I was going to try and have it jumped..but i think the battery is gone because I've been having problems with it for a while now.

Yea I need a new battery bad. It has trouble starting when I let it sit over night. I'm looking for an optima battery around this area for cheap. I know our eagle parts guy  sells them but I haven't been able to get in touch with him.
