2001 ford f 150 light duty one of my programs say that the gem shuts down after the doors have been locked a certain amount of times and that it has to be woken up. will thiss effect anything if its not hooked up in a vehicle without factory keyless. this is the car in my previous post about the 5 wire door locks. if i dont wake up the gem, will the doors not unlock after a certain amout of time?

they should unlock because you are putting power right to the motors not thru or to the gem module. and if it doesnt have keyless than it wont have an alarm you need to bypass either.

Hey Mobiletoys2002, I would go straight to the motor wires and skip the GEM and the 5 wire alternating configuration. If your RS unit is capacble of both (+) & (-) output then all you have to do is attach the locking wires to the appropriate motor wires. If your RS unit does not have alternating polaritry, then you will need 2 relays to convert the signal to (+). ------------- Jeff

what will happen if the gem is not connected to the unlock part of the door locks???? i finished the locks on the ford with some good new s and bad news. The good news is they work with the remote, the bad news is i think i fried the master switch in the car well at least the remotes work with the locks.hey velocity the pink/green wire in the passenger door is not the correct wire and will fry the switch if connected as a switch wire in an alternating setup.it shows ground all the time and does not change the wire that does work is the pink/black and pink / YELLOW it actually looks like orange not yellow.the pink / YELLOW or orange whatever color it is is the lock wire off the switch on the passenger side if getting in the passenger door. How much will this cost me for a new switch in this car??????im so dumb i know sorry but it wa sa bad day.

velocity can you explain this lock system to me, how it works, like what makes the master switch a master? i know why the switch burnt because i sent a positive direct to a negative but what was the negative going to was it a motor lead or was it going to the master switch?I understand this a little better but not totally and i need to or this will happen again .i always hated door locks and never got good at them i did most of my studying on other things and i should have studied this more.I am happy because i got the locks working through the remote but i am upset i burnt the switch or switches. Can you help me please?

I also remember pink / YELLOW and pink/green as the main wires for Fords. Most of the time thay were negative door locks (when the wires were a thin gauge) I remember Pink/black being a motor wire... you may still have the wrong wire. You did a 5 wire reverse polarity hook up? When you cut the pink /black, did all the door locks stop working?

FORDS PRIMARY DOOR LOCK COLORS ARE AS FOLLOWS PINK / YELLOW - LOCK - USUALLY SMALL WIRES PINK GREEN - UNLOCK -. USUALLY SMALL WIRES MOTOR WIRES- PINK/BLACK ( MOTOR LOCK), RED / ORANGE (MOTOR 1ST UNLOCK), PINK/ORAGE (MOTOR 2ND UNLOCK). MOTOR WIRES ARE USUALLY THICKER AROUND 14-16GAUGE. THEY REST NEGATIVE ------------- STEVE P.

ok i did a 5 wire alternating setup, i took th epassenger door panel off and i got to the switych wires, tested all wires and i got BLACK/ white constant 12 volts the rest of the wires all rested at ground and the only two wires that changed to positive 12 volts on lock or unlock was the pink/black and the pink / YELLOW. none of these wires were thin except the illumination at the switch.

when a door lock switch is burnt in a vehicle how do i know what i need to replace do i have to replace both switches or just one (how can i tell which switch blew)??I lost constant power to the switch on the passenger side i have not checked the drivers side yet.I checked the fuses one was burnt so i replaced it but power di dnot return to switch. i wonder if i send power to the constant wire to the switch if it will work any thoughts on this is it worth a try ?? when i wired this i was using a 5 wire alternating setup my wires that were cut and interfaced where the pink / YELLOW and the pink/green i used as my switch wires i connected to relay and the relay buzzed and then the switch no longer worked. i then changed my wires from the pink/green to the pink/black and it worked now both doors lock/unlock through the alarms remote but not through factory switches.i know there is no power to the switch now so the circuit has been broke somewhere but i dont know where! Is it controlled through the master switch?????. The power to the switch seems to be the problem so there has to be a fuse somewhere correct???? please someone tell me what i need to do in this situation i need to know soon if i have to buy this guy a new switch or switches.

I would hook the wires back up the way they were from the factory. I would check to make sure all vehicles fuses are good. I will then try to put power back to that BLACK/ white wire.. using a 10 amp fuse or lower. If your switch doesn't work after this, I would replace it.
