I'm having a viper 591xv remote start installed next weekend.

The installer has verified that the DEI 555X should work on my 2000 Lexus RX300, but he says that he doesn't like to try them because the instructions are weak in that they (DEI) don't provide the color codes for wires coming out of the key cylinder for my particular car.    (DEI apparently provides the color codes for another model and he knows (previous attempts!) that the color codes aren't right.)

The installer tells me that he needs the color codes for the "Sync", "Clock" and "Data" wiring.  The vehicle is a 2000 Lexus RX300.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

there is a better solution to your problem. you can use a 555-F for fords. it will also work for '98 and up lexus. the programming is a little difficult but works better than the x in my opinion. if your installer has been doing starts for a while he should already know this. this would bother me due to the fact of the ford bypass being so popular. hope this helps.

I'll ask about that, but I thought 555F was only for the ES300 and GS300, not the RX300.

I've seen the "chart" says that only the U and X types will work for the RX300, but not for my year.  We called the factory to confirm that it will work for my year, but maybe another call to the factory will reveal more options.

The installer is extremely capable and competent - and incredibly patient and tolerant of all of my questions!

Thanks for the suggestion.

I really appreciate the level of detailed help being provided here.  I'll take this info to the installer and see how it goes!

FWIW, I really wanted to avoid the U modules because of the extra cost of another key.  We bought the car used and have only the two main keys.  We've looked into Lexus, locksmiths and other ideas (ebay!) for replacement, ready-to-go key/chip solutions and found that they would increase the cost of the install quite $ignificantly.  The X and/or F modules would seem to be the answer.

Again, many thanks!

I stopped in a the installer's last night - they were floored that I could get this level of detailed information from the web.  It looks like, with many thanks to FURREDOUTGIXXER, we'll be using the F-module.  They opened up the literature in the F-module - and there were the 2000 Lexus RX300 instructions.  They double checked on DIRECTECH.COM and, again, there is no hint that the F module would work on my car.

The additional detail I got on the X module is that some RX300's apparently have a different set of wires than colors provided by HAGMANTI.

Thank you all for the input.

how come nobody mentioned the easiest way to solve this? call howard keys at 800-524-9199 and get a key for $18 and make your own keybox for the cost of a relay and some wire, and be done. i refuse to use 555f's anymore, the last one i had laying around and tried to use i wound up throwing the damn thing in the garbage.
