when you get a new remote to replace or add to your alarm, how do you initialized it, or do you? does the alarm detect it or are there steps i need to take so it does?

Look at pages 30-31 of your installation manual.

Basically

Open door.
Turn ignition on.
Press the Valet button eight times.
Press and hold the Valet button.
-- siren should chirp and LED flash eight times.
Press lock on the transmitter (still holding Valet button)
Release Valet switch.
