I'm trying to install an Audiovox APS-685 Remote Start/Keyless entry system and JDL-PK transponder bypass into my 2000 Grand Cherokee and have a bunch of questions.

The APS-685 install instructions have me connecting a wire to IGN 2, but there is no IGN 2, there is an IGN 3, is it okay to use that? It appears to have the 12v in the same key positions as the IGN 2 that the APS-685 wants to be hooked to.

Do I need to hook up the other IGN 3 wire from the APS-685 that provides a 300mA gorund output 3 seconds before start (using a relay) with this vehicle? The directions say some vehicles need it and some don't (real helpful)?

Many thanks to any ideas, suggestions, etc!

try just using your ign 2, if your jeeps wire has power with ign but not while cranking then it will work. just make sure to power all your cars ign wires

Let me know what you end up doing for the parking lights, also let me know what you do for the tach wire. I ended up using a injector wire, and am not quite finished with the install.

Thanks!

Connecting to the IGN 2 from the APS will give me "something" connected to all the ignition wires.

I still need to do the tach wire and connection from the APS to the JDL-PK then I think I can test the remote starting. Hopefully that will work, then I can try to figure out the locks, parking lights, etc. I still have a way to go. :(

Any other suggestions, such as the locks? I have the locks wired up to what I think is correct based on the JDL instuctions, but I haven't tried them yet since I was waiting to get the remote start working first.

The locks are straight forward, the JDL will do it all for you.  If you have the JDL powered up you can use the locks immediatley.  As far as the locks, there are two ways.  One is pulsing a ground from the APS parking light output thru a 240 ohm resistor and the other is this way

Be sure to turn off your FACTORY horn honk and parking light flash on your overhead console (the information center with the compass and gas mileage etc....)

Good luck

Sorry, I meant "as far as the PARKING LIGHTS"

Thanks again, that method for the lights looks nice and simple.

A couple of more questions though....

How does the JDL handle the locks? I can't quite figure it out. I've wired in the JDL, all but the connection to the OBDII connector and the connection to the APS but I don't see how the JDL handles the door locks from the APS since the only connection from the APS to the JDL seems to just tell the JDL to bypass the transponder key. I hooked up the APS to the door lock too, did I not need to do that?

Also, I haven't been able to find the tan tach wire under the hood and was thinking of just using an injector wire like Sierra2700 did. Is there anything wrong with that?

Thanks!

Yeah, I used an injector wire, i havent completed my install yet though cause the wire diagram I got off the net was incorrect (as you can see from a thread a little below this) I havent finished cause its like 10 degrees up here in North Dakota :)

The APS lock outputs need to be connected to the JDL-PK's Blue(-) UNLOCK ALL DOOR input and the Green(-) LOCK input. When the JDL-PK recieves the lock or unlock output signal from the APS it will provide the proper code via the Violet(-) data wire connected to the OBDII. The computer uses various coded data algorythms to perform functions such as lock, unlock, trunk(if equiped), window rollup(if equiped), security bypassing for remote start etc. These are all provided and designed into the JDL-PK interface for ease of installation. Good Luck. JDL-PK wiring and instructions

So I shouldn't have hooked the JDL (or anything) to the door locks at all and that the ODBII interface will handle that?

If you have the JDL-PK then your door locks will be controlled via the data wire. You just need to connect the APS lock/unlock outputs to the JDL-PK as I described in the previous post. No you don't need to connect directly to the vehicle's door lock wires. That's the purpose of the interface. If you want to connect directly to your door locks then you could have used the PKU-CH for bypassing the transponder only and saved some money. Since you have the better unit you might as well utilize it's features. Good luck posted_image JDL-PK features

Thanks iskidoo,

I feel like a tool for spending the time wiring into the doors. Oh well, it's easy enough to disconnect :)
