Hi,

I am in the market for a remote starter for a 2003 Honda Civic EX 2DR w/ OEM keyless entry (3 button - lock, unlock, panic).  I've gone around in circles but here's what I have come up with:

I like the Crimestopper RS-999TW1 (its base model, the RS-900-VII, has all the feautres that came to mind in researching, plus the 2-way transceivers for confirmation of start).  Any pros or cons to this model, or any other suggestions?  With this model, would I have to do anything to disable the OEM keyless system?  Or just install this, and both the new remotes and the old remotes could be used to lock/unlock?

I am also aware that I will need an immobilzer bypass module.  I knew about the 555s (<--plural, not model # containing the letter 's'), but I learned about the PKH3 reading on this site.  Is either one any better than the other?  Are these modules universal in that they will interface with any Remote Starter brand? (I userstand that they are not universal across auto brands).  I definitely want the codelearning type and not the one in which you leave the valet key in a box.

Once I have all the parts I need, I know I can do the install.... it's just making sure I have everything that gets me.  I don't want to have to start and stop 3 times and wait for new items to get here.  That said, is the actual remote starter unit and the bypass all I need, or are there other relays for doorlocks, wiring harnesses, switches (hood pin switch?), I would need?  Sorry if it seems like a broad question.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer my ramblings.  It's getting cold, hopefully soon *I* can retire as the remote starter :)

Happy Holidays,

Jay

For that car, I'd strongly prefer the 555I.

You should be able to get almost all functionality of most alarms w/o any other extra parts.

Thanks, good to know I shouldn't have to stop in the middle to find more parts.

May I ask why you would recommend the 555i over the PKH3 for this particular car?  I just happened to catch this 2004 Civic thread: https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=44956&PN=1&tpn=1 and you said that either one would work..... is it something unique to the '03 that the 555i is better?

I guess all that leaves is whether I have to do something to the OEM keyless system, or just piggy-back the Crimestopper over it and that's that.

thanks again

IMO, I'd take the PKH3...

Why isn't there a sticky, "SEARCH your question BEFORE posting."

Either one will work. In my experience, the PKH3 is a little more unreliable.

The PKH3 has never given me any problems with all the vehicles that I've installed them into. As long as you go through  the learning sequence properly & wire everything right , you won't have any problems
