I would want to check the Starter first.....It may have caused the RS to fry. Chrysler seems to have a problem with starters and I have seen Service Dept's blame RS when it was the fault of the Armature of the starter having a burn spot and causing the RS to Heat up on the Start Relay. It even happened on my wifes 01 Caravan.

We had tobe trained by CS to install their product. Did the power fuses (main power) into the unit not blow? Did the car start and the starter stay engaged? Did it loose tach signal? Curious, if you installed it, why pay some else to pull it out. No, it's not common for the unit to screw up. Its more likely the starter took out the rs. As you put the unit in, CS won't accept any reposnibility for it.
