03 buick rendezvous

hi i just got a remote starter installed today, however the the buick security system (pass key iii) no longer arms when the doors are locked, and i had the fuctions of the factory remote transfered to the new remote. i can lock the doors with the factory remote and the dashboard led flashes and the horns honks, however, after i start the car with the new remote and then lock again with the new remote the led does not flash but remains off, the installer said that it is because the remote starter disables the factory system but does not rearm it and he cannot set it up to do it with the new remote, i was wondering if someone can tell me if this true or BS, also, is the factory system strictly a keyless entry? also, i had a viper 160 installed.

To arm the factory alarm, you need to pulse the driver's doorpin and lock at the same time, If I remember correctly. The alarm may only arm with the factory fob, though..... can't remember offhand exactly. As far as the PK3, it is a vehicle antitheft system that is totally independant of any sort of factory remote control for anything. The flashing LED in the dash is for the content theft system, which is controlled by the remote control. Basically, if the vehicle is "armed" with the factory remote, and a door is opened by some unlawful means afterwards, the horn honks, lights flash, etc.... a very rudimentary alarm. Dunno if it has an impact sensor.... some do, most don't.

Yes, it's true that you cannot arm the alarm system with the remote starter transmitter. And as gus1 mentioned, this has nothing to do with the PK3 ignition security, they are two different independent systems. However, the alarm system does interface with the ignition security by preventing the vehicle from running if the alarm is set off. This is why the alarm system must be disarmed with the remote starter before the actual start can occur. If you want to use only one transmitter and still keep the alarm system active, all you have to do is use the switch on the door to lock the doors when you exit the vehicle. This will arm the alarm system when you shut the door (some vehicles have a delay after the door is shut before the alarm arms - approximately 1 minute). The alarm will disarm when you use the unlock or start buttons on the new transmitter. This is an easy habit to learn, but it also makes it easier to lock your keys in the vehicle since you're locking the doors with the door switch instead of the transmitter.
