I have a 2002 chev pickup and I want to find another way of getting a tach signal for a remote starter I am installing. Does anyone know of any options besides connecting to the ECM which is located in the engine compartment.

you could also try it at the injector. remember you will always want the strongest signal possible.

Go to one of the coil packs on the driver's side of the engine.  Each coil has four wires, and three are always the same color.  You want to hook up to any of the "always different" wires..... the light blue one seems to be the easiest one to grab.

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.

VIOLET/WHITE is the vehicle tach wire and the GREEN is for the alarm color for the Design Tech alarm systems. Not applicable to your install.

I installed a python 1500 in my 99 silverado.  I got the tach wire behind the instrument cluster.  You should be able to test the wire at the harness and make sure it will work.  I haven't had any problems with mine.  It was a lot easier that way.

use  the white wire in the pcm harness near the pcm...it is one of approximately three there.probe using a electronic test light for ac signal.very easy to access.

Does VILOT/WHITE mean vilot wire in the white plug?  If so what if I have to hook up to more than one ignition coil like it says I may have to do in my installation instructions.

I have not removed my instrument cluster yet to check it out,  How do I know which wire is for tach back there?  Is it odvious to tell which one if I deciede to go that route?

There is a VIOLET with a WHITE stripe wire that you can use for the tach. If you use this wire, the signal may not be good enough for all RS units. If the starter does not engage long enough, use the WHITE wire in the same spot that you found the VIOLET/ WHITE wire.

Jeff, I can't seem to find a VILOT wire with a WHITE stripe in a plug above the valve cover.  All I can find is a WHITE connector that connect the wires to the coils attached to the valve covers on both the driver and the passengers sides. I have looked all over on top of the engine.  I must be looking to hard or in the wrong place. Can you be a little more specific on where the connecter is?

Look for the wire at the ECM, ECM is located near the battery, down low, between the fender and the fan under the black plastic cover. On the 4.3L, the tach wire is at pin 20 in the connector labeled 'red'. On the 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L, the tach wire is located at pin 10 in the 'red' connector. Use the WHITE wire
