Remote Starter 2000 Durango, Check Eng.

Hi guys, I hope you can assist me!!!!

I have a Bulldog Security Model RS82P remote starter and have installed it into a 2000 Dodge Durango with a factory anti-theft system.

First of all a couple notes....I am using the CHR-1 harness and have purchased the starter and harness from directwholesale.net

I installed the unit in the following manner:

1) Hooked up the t-harness
2) Hooked up the brake light input wire
3) Hooked up the ground
4) Hooked up the parking light output
5) Ran the antenna
6) Hooked up the hood switch
7) Hooked up the FASD to a GREEN/ orange wire in the kick panel ( this was not listed on the wiring diagrams! )

I have the system set up using factory settings ( tachless ).

When I press start the car starts and when I press stop the car stops. Man did I feel good when I got this working -- that pesky alarm shutdown wire was a PAIN in the BUTT to find....thank god for the internet. For your reference -- 2000 durangos have a GREEN/ orange wire in the wire bundle in the driver's kick panel if factory keyless entry is installed....mine is a SLT Plus model.

OK, so now for the problem....

I am getting a Check Engine light with an error code of 1698. 1698 indicates "No CCD Message from Transmission Control Module."

In researching on the internet, I have found the following information and I was hoping that you could tell me what I need to do, as I don't quite understand the instructions or comments and am using the harness.

These are just message board posts from years back I found, but it describes my exact problem.

I recently installed a remote starter in my platinum 2000 4.7 SLT+ d.
Everything is working great except that my check engine light is on. After cycling the key to get the error code it tells me "P 1698" in the digital odometer section. I can't make sense of it? Can anyone help?

P1698: "No CCD Message from Transmission Control Module"

Thanks tom, we have a 2000 Durango shop book and it told us how to wire it. We did as it said. Tommorow when I hook up the door locks I will have it double checked just in case. I will let you know what hapens.
I did also notice a whinning sound coming from the truck when remotly started and as soon as the key is turn out of lock it stops. I think it is related.

Whine might be the fuel pump; might be normal

Try doing a cold start with the key and then getting out to listen.
Fuel pump is in the tank, so the sound would come roughly from the mid-rear of the vehicle.
Let me know what wires you tapped, and I'll squint at the diagrams to see if I can see any potential problems.. I only have '99 diagrams, so YMMV..

I took a closer look at the diagrams and notice very small fine print on the bottom telling me that ignition 3 (light blue) also needs to be hooked up. Don't know how I missed it the first time around. I don't know what it does but listening closely the sound sounds like something under the back of the engine toward the drivers side is trying to run but can't. Needless to say today or tommorow I will hook up ign 3 and my door locks and I will post what happens.

Yep that's right.
I am going to be doing a starter too.
Do not drive the D when the check engine light in on!
You only hooked up one ignition wire which is Dark blue.
You need another wire that is only on the 2000 year models it's GREEN/ Red. Hook up these two wire(ign 1 and 2) to wires to the starter and it should work fine. The Green / Red wire needs to also see a power at starup.

The fix is as stated inthe obove post.....hook up that second ign. wire DK Grn/Red. Its a small 22g wire, use a relay K

also diconect the neg post of your batt. to reset the check engine light leave it off for about 20 min.
