I just did a remote start on a 00 Pontiac Montana yesterday, that had a Passlock 3 system on it. I used DirectWire for the wiring, and it stated that I needed to interupt the blue wire that feeds the P3 bypass module with the key-sense wire. Basically, so when you insert the key, the purple data wire of the P3 system doesn't see 2 different codes.

My question is this.. Is it really necessary to do this? It really wasn't that hard to wire up with a relay, but it just ruins the whole "look" of my install. I like installs clean cut, and not messy looking.

Has anybody tried doing this without interupting that wire? Just curious for future reference.

I'm sure it was done in the past and that's why the note was added to interrupt the BLUE wire so that you don't get the customer coming back to you stranded on the hiway saying that the keys don't start the vehicle. In most cases, the added notes for vehicles have been tested and in most cases are a good safety net for the shop to do so that situations of stranded customer's do not become your responsibility ( although if you don't do the noted add on, you WILL be responsible for it )
