I have a 2001 Toyota Tacoma. The dealer installed an aftermarket Silencer alarm about 4 years ago. It worked well for a while, but then began to degrade. It would only unlock the doors every once in a while, and now, it wont at all. Are there any causes for this? I think the dealer just tapped some wires at the Body Control Unit, but I got a more complicated suggestion of adding relays and diodes from someone else...does anyone have any experience with any of this? Thanks, Anthony

Might be a lose wire. The unlock wire is located at the driver kick -RED / yellow.

Check and see if there are any loose connection (Ground wire or some sort, battery replacement on remote unit). If not, save yourself the headach. Take the old unit out and replace it with a new one. After all, it has lasted you for more that four years and no electronic stuff ever last forever. It will cost you about $80 to put a good new unit in yourself. To me, it's worth more than the aggravation of finding out why it works sometime and why it doesn't at another time.

No loose wires. Apparently this is common wth Toyota Tacomas from what I hear. I am installing a new system this weekend. Does anyone have any ides with the relay setup or is simply tapping the wires enough? Thanks, Anthony

Changing your keyless setup won't help, I have the same problem, they unlock when they want to. It is the door lock controller, I can't remember the exact name. Up to a certain year model, 01-02.

That is what I heard. Calling the dealer produced a TSB, but I am out of warranty. I believe the problem was solved for 2002, what year is your truck? The part to fix it is 150$ at the dealership. It needs a new Body Control Module. Thanks, Anthony

What state is Butler Toyota located in? We have a Butler in NJ, but I do not know if there is a Toyota dealership there.
Thanks,
Anthony
