I received a 561R remote starter for christmas (thanks santa!) and began perusing the installation manual this A.M. I'm a bit confused on the necessity of a 'bypass module'. Can anyone point me to info which will tell me if I need a seperate DEI Bypass module for my truck? (1997 Chevy Tahoe LS - 2WD, billy basic model. It has factory electric locks with (poor range) lock/unlock remote).
Thanks in advance

Your vehicle has GM's PASSLOCK II Anti-Theft System... You can use DEI or GMBP from bypass.com The GM PASS-Key II system is the one with a resistor chip embedded in the shaft of the ignition key. When the ignition key is used for the first time at the factory the car's computer measures the exact value of the resistor and places it in memory. From that time on, the key will not start the engine unless the same exact resistor value is embedded in the key. So with the bypass module, it allow you to remote start your vehicle w/o having your key in the ignition. When you press a button on your remote starter, it will then send a signal to the bypass module which will send the proper value to your computer...allowing you to have the joy of remote starting your vehicle. Hey Shawn, thanks for the info - but I'm still a bit confused (doesn't take much). Where did you get your info? The reason I ask is I've been told two different things by two different installers. I also had a replacement key made at the local Ace hardware which worked fine.
Is it possible that I DON'T have that system?
Thanks

According to directechs.com, no transponder bypass is required. It is, however VERY important to interface the 2nd ignition white wire, or damage to the tranny will result.

No bypass is needed, GM started using its passkey system on the fullsize trucks(C/K, Tahoe, Suburban) in 98. And as posted above the pink wire and white wire need to have 12v while running and cranking, if the white isn't hooked up your tach won't work and the PRNDL display won't be lit when the remote start is used
