I just got a Golf2 Gti, its from 1988 so it has had a chequered past, came with K&N filter, twin cans, microphones , and immobilzer . I would like the interior light to come on when I open the door , I know its not very bling bling, but thats just me.

I got all the doors to trigger the light, but the drivers . Tracing the wire back it seems to go to the aftermarket immobilizer, a Sigma M800 T2, so it says on the box. One of my workmates said it may be to cause the immobilizer to accept the key, so i should be careful with it. But surely then there should be an output to the interior light that triggers that. I am a true novice, so does anyone have any simple solutions for this small problem?

The wire should go to ground when you open the driver's door. This probably wakes up the immobilizer for a minute or so to allow you to start the car. Check the switch that this wire is connected to to see if it is still working. It may be in the body of the car at the front or rear of the door opening or it could be built into the door latch itself. It is most likely disconnected or corroded.

The Immobilizer works OK, i just need the interior light to come on as well.
