Subject: Shock Sensor Location?

Just wondering where the best place is to mount the shock sensor for my alarm.  There is presently an old alarm in my car and the shock sensor for that alarm is located on the steering column.   Is this the best place for it???

Thanks

Derek

i usually mount tie it to a big harness (ignition harness).

Most people mount it to the steering column...I feel this is wrong, cus the column is on rubber bushing, making adjustment and sensativaty an issue.

Like wblake said attach it to a good size wire harness. Or to something thats not buffered by rubber!!

See ya...Happy new year

i just installed my alarm yesterday and i have mounted my shock sensor under the dash board driver side. i had mounted it on the solid metal chassis.  the sensor needs to be mounted on a solid surface so that it could sense any movement from the car, installing it on a harness may degrade the sensing capability since the harness will absorve some of the vibrations.  :)

Read the instruction is a DEI dual zone shock sensor!

It really doesnt much matter.  The textbook says to mount it via self tapping screws to the chasis (solid surface).  These sensing modules work on a the magnitude of a typical frequency of a shock wave.  Mounting on on the harness versus the chasis will yeild slightly different results, however, there should be a sensativity setting (pot) which would negate this difference.

I have mounted them in all three places...chassis with screws, tie wrapped to harness, and tie wrapped to steering column.  I have found very little difference in results between these and usually do whats easist in each particular setup.

Astroflex suggest to install Shock Sensor in a place where it wil provide ominidirectional sensitivity.
