hi I am having problems installing a remote starter in my wifes 2002 focus ZTS.

it is for a manual trans, I have installed many of these in auto and manuals ( manualwere our own vehicles) I use the prostart brand. they have always worked well for me in the past.

my issue is that the auto dimmer/ doorpin section of the focus is creating problems..
the doom light comes on after I do the final trigger for the remote sequence.

the sequence is this
while the car is running
1-put car in neutral
2-apply the parking brake
3-(within 20 sec) press either lock or unlock or start/stop button on transmitter
4-parking light will flash 3 times
5-remove key (engine will continue to run)
6-exit vehicle and close door
7-press and hold either lock or unlock or start/stop button on the transmitter ( the car shuts down and goes into ready more[waitng for the signal to remote start the vehicle])

my problem is after step 7.. I press any of the buttons on the remote and the unit enters ready mode ( ready to recieve the command to start the vehicle) but after a 1 second delay the interior lights come back on and the unit thinks the car door has been opened and cancels the ready mode and the vehicle can not be remotly started.

is there something I missed? I used the BLACK/ blue wire in the drivers kick panel, tested it and +12V closed door and 0V when it is open and on the remote start unit I used the negative door input ( as it states 0V when door open and +4V or more when it is closed)

the unit has the lock/unlock function for the door, and it is not yet hooked up, but I can't see that being an issue with this, as the factory remote will not lock/unlock the doors as the car in running.
I have also tried to lock the doors manually and with the remote at step 6 and the dome light still comes on.

please help..

hi had the same problem us the black blue that is in the sill plate almost in the middle of the drivers seat none of the black blue in kick panel will work you might have to relay isolate because the car pulses the doors every hour and will take it out of sequince the pulse isn't strong enough to trip relay

-------------
good luck

how would I hook a relay to isolate this?
I will try the other wire first though

well I finally figured it out.
I used the BLACK / YELLOW wire from the doorpin switch I just ran a longer wire and the light delay circuit has no effect on that wire.

I also figured out which wires to use for the lock/unlock blk/red and blk/yel. most of the wiring diagrams state to use the wires in the kick panel.. well the correct wires are in the kick panel.. but on the side of the door ( under the foam padding) comming from the door gromets right behind the fuse panel. if you cut the foam padding or feel it back you will see them.. hope this helps someone in the future..

thanks again for your help
