I have been installing remote starts for about 8 years. I have used design tech, bulldog, crime stopper, audiovox and just reciently scytek.

Bulldog - to many returns I don't use these anymore.

Designtech - good product, excellent tachless mode, but I did not like the remotes poor quality.

Crimestopper - ok product easy to install but the tachless mode sucks.

Audiovox - good product, good remote, good techless mode, easy installation. A bit confusing to program and a bit expensive compared to scytek.

Scytek - good product, easy to program with computer cable, easy to install, good tachless mode, and quick response to transmitter button push. These units also have excellent price.

I would like to hear what you use and what you like/dislike about them.

I never use tachless, even on units that have one, and the best units do not even have tachless mode. AstroStart is the most reliable and in my opinion has the best features and is the best to install. Programming is easy with the dipswitches and even easier with the multi-test tool that programs via the antenna wire. They are a little more expensive though I think.

I stock some UltraStart units as my basic unit and I have not had any problems with their latest stuff.

It is funny to talk about how easy installing is because putting in a starter is easy. But certain vehicles are just more of a pain in the back and knees. I say Astrostarts are easy to install because there is very little work to do to the unit since it has five programmable outputs (one relayed, 4 low current)

On Other brands I always find myself diode isolating the ground out when running wire to trigger three different things and always having to run extra 12v+ constant wires and making additional splices that take time.

MARS22 (ComfortStart) - very ghey remotes IMO
ScyTek ASTRA1000RS - very "official" looking remotes and we can offer customers the "step up" to the GALAXY5000RS (RS/Alarm) or the 5000RS 2w-1 (RS/Alarm w/2-2way)

I have a hard time installing a "RS" without doing Keyless Entry...i mean, c'mon...how you gonna give a customer a keypad with 4 buttons and tell them the only button that works is the asterik/start button?

for that reason, i wouldn't mind getting the designtech POS...i like that it doesn't have a "lock", "unlock", "trunk" button on the remote. so when you ask me for RS and i show you the keypad you'll be getting, you'll be forced to ask for "Remote Entry" where I have to "bump you up" to the Scytek/Omega unit.

maybe we should get a DesignTech just for that reason. hmmmmm.

I use and prefer autopage.. I have used audiovox, compustar, DEI (viper/python..even BOA, god forbid) Scytek/Galaxy, Crimestopper, Clifford/Avital (before DEI's bastardization) Design-Tech. Too bad the old clifford/avital is gone. I used to love their 6000 series with the nightglo remote.. Extremely reliable and feature rich alarm..

I'd like to try out code alarm sometime in the near future.. Got my eyes on the CA-640..not to be confused with the circuit city CA-645. To add to the list is Omega as well.

I couldn't agree with you more KarTuneMan, once you get that sucker in the car it will last forever. Unfortunately, only you and I and along with the other professional installer know that.

As you well know, being in the remote starter world of beauty pagent with brains won't get you marks, but being beautiful is what will win you the sale.

I love DEI and wont recomend anything else to my friends. For the record I hate all those 2 way LCS systems. It doesnt matter where they get put in or the brand, almost everyone has complaints about them, in some form or another. Sometimes it akes 1 month, sometimes 6 months, sometimes 1 year, but I still find them to be an unreliable system and I think they were rushed onto the market before they were ready.

I don't install  lot of RS in time but I prefer DEI. No problems so far with their brains or parts.

Everyone has their preference though, so in the long run use what you believe is the best.

I have been using the Commando product line for 2 years now and there products are great to install. As for reliability I have not had 1 unit come back with a problem. There Tech staff are very informitive and very easy to work with. In my opinion, for the money and the features you will be hard pressed to find a better more reliable brand on the market.
