Subject: Turning on Heater via remote start.

Hey all,

Lately i installed a few crappy Wal-mart "specials" Remote car-starters...
On 2 of the cars that I installed them on (that both had the Chip in the key, that I by-passed to make the remote car starter work)the Heaters do not turn on when the car is starter.

Another car (Pontic Sunfire) I told the person about the situation so they went to the Dealer and had them install a Stock remote Starter... still the same problem, the heater dosent turn ON when the remote start is activated.

The heaters are set to full-blast and in the ON position... but doing the Remote Start does not turn them on.

But once you put the key in and turn to the ON position, the heaters turn ON.

So, is there anyway to fix this problem?

Thanks all!

Sounds like you dont have the ACCESSORY wire powered during remote start.

I did this when I first installed my remote starter.
Whichever wire says ACCESSORY on it, I put it on wrong accessories wire. I put it on the radio accessory circuit. When I remote started my car, the radio would turn on and not the heater or A/C or all of that, I found that there is another wire in the harness that is also labeled ACCESSORY, but it is for the actual car's accessories, heater and A/C and all of that. Hook up to this one and you should be good to go. Hope this helps and you can find the other wire.

Sounds like you don't have it connected up to the correct wires.  Double check the wires coming off the ign. switch to find the heater supply.  If you don't have the vehicles wiring diagram connect up a clamp on inductive amp probe onto the wire you think it is.  Then start turning on the heater, if the amps climb as the fan speed increases you got the right feed.

i had this problem  try to connect the 2th ignition will work

the 2nd ignition wire is already connected (has to be in order to start the car)

*****on the car i worked on******
as for the ACCESSORY wire, I conneceted it to the one that was listed in the Article here on 12volt.com...
and it activates all the interior lights and everything else besides the Heater.

*****on the car the dealer worked on (installing a factory remote starter*****
it is acting the same way as the one i worked on, and I know that all the "factory" alarms and remote starters just "plug-in".

so if my wiring was wrong, why is the factory system doing the same thing?

sound like there May also be a second accessory somewhere that runs the heater/ac it may be a small guage wire and not directly at the ign switch but either way test for it with a dmm then when you find one that acts like an acc jumper it to a 12+ wire and see if the heater turns on i can guarentee that theres a wire in there that energizes with the key turned that start up the Heater/ac so just keep checking

Ok, the problem is either the remote starts are not powering the ign/acc wires correctly or you don't have all of the ign acc wires hooked up. If you were more specific with you information we could probably tell you.

Also, second ign rarely are needed to just start the car. They are needed to start the car without the computer freaking out, in some cases.

So called factory alarms do not just plug in either, they have to be wired in just like any other alarm. There are very few exceptions to this.

If you believe  100% the wire colors to given by the makers of the remote starter or websites you'll have trouble sometimes.   They are a great guide of where to start!!  YOu still are suppost to check and verrify the wire colors manually!   Heck OEM service manuals don't always have the right color codes!

OK auex is the only one who mentioned anything about wanting to know what vehicles these are. All I heard was Pontiac Sunfire. What year is it, and what are the years, makes and models of the other 2 vehicles? Like auex said it is clearly a case of the remote starter not powering up the proper wires. You likely just missed the proper wires. Post what vehicles these are and we will post what wires need to be connected.

On the Sunfire you should have 2 ing wires Pink and White, and one Acc wire Orange if these three wires are powered up on remote start the heater will work.....

car i worked on:
'99 Chevy Malibu
car dealer worked on:
'02 Pontiac Sunfire

When i worked on the '99 Chevy Malibu i just installed the 1st ignition and tested... would not start because the computer did not see the resistance from the "key". So, instead of buying the extra modual to by-pass the key, i made my own with a few resistors... and when i did that I was told by the Manf. of the remote start that i HAVE to install it on the 2nd ignition. So thats what I did, and the car starts and runs fine now.

I looked for another Accessory wire on the '99 Chevy Malibu but I cant see to find one that would conrtol the heater.
Thoughts?

This car has,

  Ign 1 = Pink

   Ign 2 = Dark Green

   Acc = Orange

All wires have to be powered up for everything to work properly. If your R/S dosen't have a second IGN output, relay it off the 1st ign output.

OK, if those are all connected then remote start the alarm, take your multimeter and test every ign and acc wire and make sure they are powered up.

Also the dealership told you that you had to hook up all the ign wires because if you don't the computer will freak out, the car will still start though as long as the ign wire for the ecu and fuel pump are powered. Basically if the ign and acc wires don't power up in a specific way then the computer's don't turn on at the right time and will turn the check engine light.

Case in point, if you don't hook up the second/third ign on a 02 GMC Pickup the truck will start fine but the transmission computer will freak out causing the vehicle to not shift right. But the truck still starts.

Ps. The sunfire has a second ACC, brown.
